About this file

This is a technical specification section for interior lighting work as part of the 25-388 CBI HVAC and Lighting Upgrade project. The specification details the requirements for furnishing and installing interior luminaires, emergency lighting units, exit signs, ballasts, drivers, and lamps. The work encompasses complete interior lighting systems including LED luminaires with minimum 50,000-hour useful life at 70 percent lumen maintenance, emergency lighting compliant with NFPA 101 and UL 924 standards, and exit signage. All products must meet current applicable standards including NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code), UL 1598 for luminaires, UL 8750 for LED equipment, and IES standards for optical and electrical measurements. The specification requires coordination with other trades for placement compatibility, proper installation per manufacturer instructions and industry standards (NECA 500 for commercial and NECA 502 for industrial lighting), field quality control testing, and cleaning to factory finish standards.

The specification mandates a three-year manufacturer warranty for LED luminaires including drivers and establishes performance requirements for emergency lighting units that automatically switch to battery power upon normal power interruption or voltage drop exceeding 20 percent, providing minimum 90 minutes of emergency illumination. All ballasts must be PCB-free and comply with current federal and state efficiency standards. Dimmable LED drivers must support continuous dimming from 100 percent to five percent light output without flicker and be compatible with specified wall dimmers and control systems. Exit signs and emergency lighting must comply with NFPA 101 and applicable state and local codes, with emergency units including power status indicators and integral test switches. Installation requirements include recessed luminaire trim installation with no visible light leakage, fire-rating compliance for fire-rated ceiling installations, proper bonding to grounding conductors, and field testing to verify operation of all emergency and exit sign equipment.
