About this file
This is a specification document for selective demolition of electrical systems as part of Project 25-388, a CBI HVAC and Lighting Upgrade. The scope of work outlined in Section 260505 covers the removal and disposal of existing electrical installations, including abandoned wiring, conduit, panelboards, outlets, and luminaires. The work requires compliance with federal regulations regarding toxic substances, particularly the removal of PCB-containing equipment, DEHP-containing lighting ballasts, and mercury-containing lamps and tubes. Contractors must verify existing field conditions before beginning demolition, coordinate utility service outages with the utility company, and report any discrepancies to the Owner and Architect. Critical requirements include maintaining existing electrical service, fire alarm systems, and telephone systems in operation until new systems are operational, with all service interruptions requiring Owner notification at least 24 hours in advance. The specification emphasizes minimizing outage duration and providing temporary connections to maintain service in adjacent work areas.
The specification requires contractors to perform all removal, relocation, and extension of existing electrical installations to accommodate new construction, including cutting and patching conduit, removing abandoned outlets with blank covers where appropriate, and repairing any adjacent construction damaged during demolition. Materials and equipment for patching and extensions must be compatible with existing installations or as otherwise specified in individual sections. The contractor assumes acceptance of existing conditions upon beginning demolition work and must maintain access to active electrical installations throughout the project. No pricing, set-aside information, funding sources, contract term details, bid due dates, or award information is provided in this specification document.
