About this file
This is a technical specification document for Section 260553 - Identification for Electrical Systems, part of the 25-388 CBI HVAC and Lighting Upgrade project. The specification establishes comprehensive requirements for identifying electrical systems, equipment, and conductors throughout the project. Key identification requirements include nameplates for switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, transformers, circuit breakers, and motor controllers; voltage and phase designations; circuit numbering and load identification; arc flash hazard warning labels for equipment likely to require energized maintenance; and wire and cable markers. All identification products must comply with ANSI Z535.2, ANSI Z535.4, NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, and UL 969 standards. Approved manufacturers for nameplates and labels include Brimar Industries, Kolbi Pipe Marker Co, Seton Identification Products, Brady Corporation, HellermannTyton, Panduit Corp, and Clarion Safety Systems. The specification requires factory pre-printed or machine-printed text rather than handwritten identification, with specific size, color, and material requirements for different application types.
Installation requirements mandate that all identification products be plainly visible for examination, adjustment, servicing, and maintenance, with specific placement guidelines for surface-mounted, flush-mounted, free-standing, and elevated equipment. Identification products must be installed centered, level, and parallel with items being identified, using stainless steel screws for exterior surfaces and self-adhesive backing or epoxy cement for interior surfaces. No pricing, contract term, set-asides, or award information is contained in this specification document, which functions solely as a technical requirements guide for the electrical identification work scope.
