About this file
This document is an Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) 2.0 Addendum that specifies AHU (Air Handling Unit) cleaning requirements for contractors based on three risk categories: Low Risk, Moderate Risk, and High Risk environments.
For Low Risk areas (non-patient care, administrative, and common spaces), contractors must follow nine specific steps: notify Facilities and Infection Control when moving to a new AHU, ensure PCRA/ICRA paperwork is available, seal the mechanical room with plastic barriers, maintain negative pressure using digital monitoring, place sticky mats at entrances, seal supply ducts to the servicing area, use HEPA vacuums to clean dust and debris, visibly inspect fans and ducts after cleaning, and notify IC and Facilities before removing duct seals for approval to restart the unit. Moderate Risk areas (patient support, outpatient/non-procedure spaces, non-compounding pharmacy, and mental health units) require the same nine steps as Low Risk. High Risk areas (inpatient units, procedure and operations rooms, isolation rooms, sterile compounding areas, and support services including lab, radiology, blood donor, and transfusion services) require all nine steps from the Low Risk section plus an additional anteroom requirement (Step 10), though the specific anteroom procedures are not detailed in the provided document excerpt.
