This project will address deferred maintenance of campsites and paved loops, rehabilitate the utility infrastructure, update the visitor center exhibits and implement ABAAS at the Ohanapecosh District. The historic Ohanapecosh Campground is in the southeast corner of Mount Rainier National Park, on the banks of the Ohanapecosh River. Consisting of eight loops and 188 sites, the low-elevation campground is the largest in the park and serves 40,000 to 50,000 visitors a year, from late May to mid-October. The rushing river, towering old-growth conifers, and an array of geothermal springs have attracted humans to this area for millennia and are still enjoyed by visitors today. Many visitors return to the campground year after year, often staying in the same campsites. Campers range from backpackers and climbers spending one night before a long trip, to large family groups that gather for several days.
