Abstract The intent of this work package is to describe the modification of HVAC currently serving the forward staterooms on the 01 Level (spaces between frames 16-36). The forward staterooms are currently served by AHU-2 which is located in 01-60-2. A new AHU (air handler unit) will be installed in the space that is currently Deck Locker 01-16-4. Deck Locker 01-16-4 will be divided into two spaces. HVAC ducting will be modified such that the newly installed AHU will serve the spaces between Frames 16 and 36 on the 01 Level as well as Scientific Stores (1-8-0). Following these modifications, AHU-2 will serve the Mess, Conference Room, Lounge, and Galley.

These modifications were implemented on two sister ships (Roger Revelle and Atlantis) and resulting as-built drawings were developed. The as-built for the Roger Revelle is shown in Reference 4. This work package will implement the same modifications on the Ronald H. Brown.

500.2.10 Exhaust System E02-55-1 (Existing)

Modify the existing ducting to isolate the exhaust flow from all spaces forward of Frame 35.

Rebalance the system to maintain the original flow rate of the remaining two exhaust terminals on the 01 Level aft of Frame 35.

500.2.11 Exhaust System E1-19-2 (Existing)

Exhaust system E1-19-2 serving the bio-analytical laboratory shall continue to exhaust through a weather terminal on the forward bulkhead of fan room 01-16-4. No modifications are necessary for this system. However, modifications to ducting may be required to suit installations.

500.2.12 HVAC Noise Requirements

This work item shall not increase the HVAC-generated noise above the existing levels in any of the normally manned compartments affected by this item. Acoustic treatment and noise abatement measures necessary to maintain the HVAC noise criteria shall be included as part of this work item.

To document the HVAC noise levels, the Contractor shall conduct two noise surveys in all spaces affected by this work item: one prior to the modifications and one after all modifications and system balancing have been accomplished. HVAC noise surveys shall be accomplished dockside, on shore power, with all ventilation and air handling equipment at maximum speed and all unnecessary ship’s systems secured. HVAC noise surveys shall be performed at night with no other industrial work being performed. The initial survey shall be performed within the first 7 days following arrival before anything other than crew effects have been removed from the ship. The final survey shall be performed with the ship in as similar a condition as possible. Written reports of the surveys shall be submitted to the Owner. The Owner shall have the option of witnessing the surveys.

After the modifications and balancing are complete, normally manned compartments that exceed the previous HVAC noise levels shall be corrected at no additional expense to the Owner.
