About this file

This document is a Product Submittal Sheet for an Expanded Corner Bead (CBXA) by Clark Dietrich, submitted by F.H. Paschen for the Kennesaw State University (KSU) Clendenin Building Envelope Repairs project. The submittal covers a galvanized steel expanded flange corner bead designed for exterior corners, with specific technical details including material specifications (0.0172 base steel, 26 Gauge, G-60 Hot-Dipped Galvanized Steel), dimensional information (2-7/8" full wing flange), and available lengths of 10' with 30 pieces per carton. The document was reviewed by RJ Wells from Epsten Group on 7/24/2024 and includes detailed specifications on code approvals, performance standards, storage requirements, and sustainability credits related to LEED certification.

The product is specifically intended for stucco assemblies and comes with several critical implementation notes, including compatibility requirements with other AWRB and stucco components, fastener specifications, and limitations regarding use with certain cement stucco types. The submittal emphasizes the corner bead's flexibility for irregular surfaces and its ability to provide reinforcement at exterior corners. The technical sheet also highlights potential LEED credits across various categories, such as Environmental Product Declarations, Sourcing of Raw Materials, and Construction and Demolition Waste Management. The product is compliant with multiple ASTM standards and carries an Intertek Code Compliance Research Report, indicating its technical and regulatory acceptability for construction applications.

EGI General Comments

1. This product is part of a whole stucco assembly, the acceptance of this product is contingent on the use of other compatible AWRB and stucco components. Review comments on other stucco-related submittals prior to procurement.

2. Product substitutions are not accepted unless explicitly accepted in writing by the manufacturer.

3. Fasteners must be compatible with the corner bead and stucco assembly. Fasteners must engage with backup wall framing and spaced according to written manufacturer instructions. If the backup wall construction (sheathing, framing, etc.) exhibits deficiencies, notify the Architect and stucco manufacturer for review.

4. Ground height dimension to be coordinated with stucco assembly thickness so that the stucco finish plane aligns with the outermost edge of the corner bead.

5. Individual stucco panels, as defined by perimeter casing beads, control joints, drop edges, and other manufacturer approved accessories, must not exceed 144 sq.ft. surface are and must not exceed a length-to-width ratio greater than 2.5:1 unless explicitly accepted in writing by the manufacturer.

#1A Expanded Corner Bead (CBXA) Galvanized steel expanded flange corner bead for exterior corners

A solid nose, all-purpose exterior corner bead. Strong and economical with multiple general use purposes.

The wide, expanded-wing flanges are flexible and can compensate for most irregular surfaces providing even grounds and straight corners. The expanded steel near the nose of the corner bead provides multiple plastering and stucco keys allowing for reinforcement and strength where it is needed the most.

In addition to reinforcing corners, the #1A Corner Bead can also be used as a return accessory around any recessed opening or as a corner for spray-applied fireproofing when the column of bead is boxed in.

Galvanized steel products should not be used with magnesium oxychloride cement stucco or Portland cement stucco containing calcium chloride additives. The selection of the appropriate type of material for accessories shall be determined by the surrounding climatic and environmental conditions such as salt air, industrial pollution, and high humidity. The #1A Corner Bead is available in Zinc for approved corrosion resistance.
