About this file
This document is a Submittal Cover Sheet and Product Submittal Sheet for an Expanded Flange Casing Bead, involving F.H. Paschen, Kennesaw State University, and the Epsten Group for the KSU Clendenin Building Envelope Repairs project. The submittal details a specific construction material (Clark Dietrich #66X Expanded Flange Casing Bead) to be used in stucco/plaster applications, with the submission dated 7/19/24 and reviewed by RJ Wells from Epsten Group on 7/24/2024. The product is a 26 gauge, G60 hot-dipped galvanized steel casing bead available in lengths from 1/4" to 1-1/4" and 10-foot sections, intended for use as a stucco/plaster stop to provide a screed edge and protective finish trim at doors, windows, and other openings.
The product submittal includes detailed technical specifications, noting limitations such as not recommended for use with Portland cement stucco containing calcium chloride additives or magnesium oxychloride cement stucco. The material complies with multiple ASTM standards including A653, C1063, and C1861, and is available in galvanized steel or 99.97% pure zinc. The submittal includes specific storage instructions, requiring materials to be kept dry, stacked off the ground, and protected from weather and surface contamination. The technical content is effective as of 03/25/24 and supersedes all previous information, with technical support services available through Clark Dietrich's contact numbers for technical, engineering, and sales inquiries.

EGI General Comments
1. This product is part of a whole stucco assembly, the acceptance of this product is contingent on the use of other compatible AWRB and stucco components. Review comments on other stucco-related submittals prior to procurement.
2. Product substitutions are not accepted unless explicitly accepted in writing by the manufacturer.
3. Fasteners must be compatible with the casing bead and stucco assembly. Fasteners must engage with backup wall framing and spaced according to written manufacturer instructions. If the backup wall construction (sheathing, framing, etc.) exhibits deficiencies, notify the Architect and stucco manufacturer for review.
4. Ground height dimension to be coordinated with stucco assembly thickness so that the stucco finish plane aligns with the outermost edge of the casing bead.
5. Individual stucco panels, as defined by perimeter casing beads, control joints, drop edges, and other manufacturer approved accessories, must not exceed 144 sq.ft. surface are and must not exceed a length-to-width ratio greater than 2.5:1 unless explicitly accepted in writing by the manufacturer.
6. Provide weeps in casing beads at base of stucco wall terminations (e.g., wall-to-soffit condition) to allow moisture within the stucco assembly to escape.

#66X Expanded Flange Casing Bead (XXCB) Expanded flange casing bead or plaster stop
Used as a stucco/plaster stop to provide a screed edge and protective finish trim while terminating plaster or thin stone in a clear, straight line at doors, windows, and other openings. The #66X is recommended as an edge divider between plaster and other dissimilar materials. An expanded flange makes tie-on applications easier.
Not recommended at base of wall in lieu of an FHA-7 Foundation Weep Screed. Designed for use under extreme reinforcement conditions where a standard short flange casing bead will be inadequate. #66X
Casing Beads are available with or without weep holes and available in zinc alloy for advanced corrosion resistance.
Galvanized steel products should not be used with Portland cement stucco containing calcium chloride additives or magnesium oxychloride cement stucco. The selection of the appropriate type of material for accessories shall be determined by the surrounding climatic and environmental conditions such as salt air, high humidity, and industrial pollution.
