Solid State Security Illumination Mat System (SS-SIMS)
ASSEMBLY AND PREPARATION FOR USE
Basic Installation and Operation
• Determine the best location that will direct traffic straight on and over the lighting system.
• Position vehicle to straddle the lighting system.
• avoid contact with the vehicle tires.
• Will accept power from either the left or right side.
CAUTION
Vehicles must straddle the illuminated mat evenly or damage can occur to the system over time.
To prevent damage vehicle tires should contact the bump modules only.
1. Position the AC Power Cord, Transformer, and DC Power Cord in the direction of the power source. DO NOT plug into power at this time.
2. Lay Long and Short Light Strips parallel to each other on the ground.
Position the Light strip with the shorter electrical cord is closest to the power outlet.
3. Lay the three Cross Braces into position as shown.
4. Connect the cross braces between the light strips by placing the stud hole within the strip over the studs on the cross brace and pushing down until the strip is well seated.
NOTE
The supplied nails and washers are only used for a more permanent application. If the intention is to keep the SS-SIMS as a portable unit, keep the nails and washers separate for future use.
5. Place the inner power cord protector into the location shown in the figure below.
Turn the power cord protector over and note the cavity along the underside. In the direction of the power outlet, press the power cord assembly from the short light strip into the cavity.

KIT
WARNING
Do not puncture cans, throw into fire, or expose to extreme heat. Direct spray can away from face and body before spraying. Serious injury to personnel may occur.
Gloves and safety glasses must be worn while handling the Explosive Trace Detector Spray Kit. The Explosive Trace Detector Spray Kit is highly flammable.
Do not use it near ignition sources.
Store the Explosive Trace Detector Spray Kit cans in a cool dry place. The cans may lose pressure if stored in high temperatures, making them harder to use properly. To avoid accidental discharge, the cans should be stored upright in the carrying case.
1. Ensure serviceability of all Explosive Trace Detector Spray Kit cans by spraying a small amount of detector spay from each can onto a Test Paper (provided with kit). A serviceable spray will yield an “EX” image on the Test Paper. If test does not yield an image, replace can IAW local SOP.
2. Remove a collection paper from the paper dispenser.
Do not touch the sticky surface of the collection paper.
Pre- or cross-contamination can occur, rendering test results inaccurate.
Although NOT recommended, if necessary, ordinary light color paper (such as tissue) can be used with the kit.
3. Remove the protective layer from the sticky side of the collection paper.
4. Wipe the surface of the suspect object (hands, trunk lid, etc.)
with the sticky side of the collection paper, or place a small amount of the suspected material on collection paper.
Do not remove protective layer from paper prematurely. Paper may turn pink if left in the open air long enough, giving a false positive reaction.
WARNING
Only use spray cans in well-ventilated areas to avoid inhalation of sprays.
Serious injury to personnel may occur. Direct spray can away from face and body before spraying. Serious injury to personnel may occur.
CAUTION
Always shake the spray can before using to ensure a proper reaction to the suspected chemicals.
5. Shake 1 “E” spay can vigorously.
6. Holding 1 “E” spray can about 6 inches from the collection paper, lightly spray the paper (or object).
Refer to the color chart in the kit for the color reactions of various explosives.
7. Watch for a color change on the paper/object and refer to the color chart.
8. If the paper/object does not change color, test the same spot on the collection paper/object with 2 “X” spray can.
9. If the paper/object did not react to sprays from either can “E” or “X”, but explosives are still suspected, test the same area with 3 “I”.
Shake container and lightly spraying from about 6 inches away.
3 “I” must be shaken immediately before using to ensure the chemicals react properly, or an accurate reaction will not occur.
10. Watch for the paper/object to change to pink, indicating inorganic nitrates (Group “I”) explosives, which could indicate an improvised explosive.
