About this file
This document is a Geotechnical Data Report prepared by AMEC for the Eastern New Mexico Rural Water Authority (ENMRWA) in March 2014, focusing on the Finished Water Two (FW2) and Cannon Lateral Pipeline Alignments for Bid Package No. 1. The technical memorandum presents results of a geotechnical field exploration conducted to collect data supporting pipeline final design and construction, with specific details including 13 soil borings across multiple locations in Curry County, New Mexico, ranging in ground elevation from approximately 4264.7 to 4322.6 feet and boring depths between 20.5 and 31.5 feet.
The report includes comprehensive laboratory analyses of soil samples, utilizing various ASTM standards to test moisture content, dry densities, grain-size distribution, Atterberg limits, consolidation, direct shear, triaxial tests, expansion index, soil pH, resistivity, and chemical concentrations. Piezometer readings from February 2003 indicated dry or minimal moisture conditions in the investigated wells. The geotechnical investigation was performed to support the broader Eastern New Mexico Rural Water System project, with testing results and detailed findings documented in the report's appendices to inform subsequent design and construction phases of the pipeline infrastructure.

Eastern New Mexico Rural Water System Bid Package 1 – Finished Water Two Pipeline and Cannon Lateral Pipeline Geotechnical Data Report
PREPARED FOR: Eastern New Mexico Rural Water Authority
PREPARED BY: AMEC a subconsultant to CH2M HILL
DATE: March 7, 2014
The purpose of this Technical Memorandum (TM) is to present the results of the geotechnical field exploration performed by AMEC Environment & Infrastructure, Inc.
(AMEC) along the proposed Finished Water Two (FW2) and Cannon Lateral Pipeline Alignments for the Eastern New Mexico Rural Water System (ENMRWS) Bid Package No. 1. The objective of this exploration was to collect geotechnical data to support development of pipeline final design and construction.

3.2 PIEZOMETER READINGS
On February 1, 2003 AMEC performed a reconnaissance to obtain depth to water readings in three piezometers, J-15, J-21 and J-23. The piezometers were installed during our original geotechnical investigation, AMEC Project No. 8-517-00079. Each piezometer was either dry or contained only trace moisture at the bottom. No additional piezometer readings have been obtained since our first site visit.
3.3 LABORATORY ANALYSIS
Moisture content determinations (ASTM D2216) were made on selected open-end drive samples recovered. Dry densities (ASTM D2937) were determined on selected relatively undisturbed 2.42-inch I.D. "ring" samples. Results of these tests are shown on the boring logs.
Grain-size analysis (ASTM D422), hydrometer tests (ASTM D422-63) and Atterberg limits tests (ASTM D4318) were performed on selected samples to aid in soil classification. Consolidation (ASTM D5333), direct shear tests (ASTM D3080) and unconsolidated-undrained (UU) triaxial tests (ASTM D2850) were performed on relatively undisturbed "ring" samples or Shelby tube samples.
Expansion Index tests (ASTM D4829) were performed on remolded bulk samples. In addition, the soil pH (SM4500-H+B) (ASTM G51), resistivity (ASTM G187), and the sulfate and chloride (EPA 300.0) concentrations were determined on select bulk samples. Modified Proctor tests (ASTM D1557) were performed on select samples. Test results are presented in Appendix B, along with a brief description of soil mechanics testing procedures. A summary sheet presenting all of the test results is also included in Appendix B.
