About this file

This Task Group Instruction (TGI) details a comprehensive maintenance and preservation project for the contaminated distillate fuel tank (7-80-2-F) on the USS BLUE RIDGE (LCC-19), located in the B Division Storeroom. The project involves cleaning, inspecting, repairing, and preserving a 4,545-gallon steel tank and its associated components, including two manhole cover plates and air vent hose connection cover plates. The scope of work includes commercial blast cleaning, visual inspection for structural integrity and coating condition, repairs to welds and plate defects (including up to one linear foot of weld repair, 60 square inches of base metal weld buildup, 10 square feet of plate replacement, and 4 linear feet of stiffener replacement), and application of new coatings.

The project is scheduled to commence on January 12, 2026, and is expected to be completed by May 15, 2027. Special requirements include Level III cleanliness for the piping system, potential lead hazard considerations, and work that affects a fire zone boundary necessitating a non-flammable closure. The work will be performed at Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka (CFAY) Naval Base in Japan, with quality assurance and technical support provided by SRF-JRMC. The total project involves 770 square feet of interior surface treatment and requires careful adherence to specified naval standards and coating specifications.
