About this file
This Task Group Instruction (TGI) details a maintenance project for cleaning and repairing Fuel Oil Service Tank No. 1A on the USS Blue Ridge (LCC-19). The work is scheduled to start on 7/21/2026 and complete by 11/19/2027, involving comprehensive tank maintenance including cleaning, welding repairs, and surface treatments. Specific tasks include vee-out and welding one linear foot of deteriorated welds, base metal weld buildup of 60 square inches, removing and installing 10 square feet of deteriorated plate, and 4 linear feet of defective stiffener.
The project requires Level II general cleaning, nondestructive testing, and application of yellow top coat paint to various tank components. The work involves multiple service areas including Fuel Oil Service Tank No. 1A, Fuel Oil Service Tank No. 1B, and the Ship Service Diesel Generator. Special requirements include SURFMEPP cleanliness standards and fabrication of a non-flammable closure due to work affecting a fire zone boundary. The tank has a capacity of 1,279 gallons, and the instruction specifies detailed procedures for surface preparation, welding, inspection, and finishing of tank components.
