About this file

This is Standard Form 24 (Rev. 10/2023), a federal bid bond form prescribed by the General Services Administration under 48 CFR 53.228(a). The form is a template used when a bid guarantee is required for federal contract opportunities involving construction, supplies, or services.

The form establishes a binding obligation between the Principal (bidder), Surety(ies), and the United States Government. The Principal and Surety(ies) agree that if the Principal's bid is accepted by the Government, the bond becomes void upon the Principal's execution of further contractual documents and provision of required bonds within the specified timeframe—typically ten (10) days if no period is specified. If the Principal fails to execute such documents or provide bonds, the Government may procure the work at the Principal's expense, with the bidder responsible for any costs exceeding the bid amount. The form accommodates multiple signatories for both the Principal and individual or corporate Sureties. Corporate Sureties must appear on the Department of Treasury's list of approved sureties and must operate within their stated liability limitations. Individual Sureties must submit a completed Affidavit of Individual Surety (Standard Form 28). The OMB control number is 9000-0001 with an expiration date of 1/31/2027. The estimated completion time for this information collection is one hour.
