About this file
This is a soil and aggregate test report prepared by Western Technologies Inc. (WT) for Pulice Construction, Inc. on behalf of the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) for the Kingman-Ash Fork Highway (I-40) project, specifically for highway ramps construction. The report documents three soil samples collected from native material stockpile locations along the I-40 corridor west of Kingman, Arizona, with sample dates of January 15, 2025, and analysis completion on January 24, 2025. The samples were collected at station locations 2956+92, 2967+76, and 2974+20 and tested in accordance with AASHTO and ASTM standards to evaluate material suitability for earthwork and compaction purposes.
The soil testing results classify all three samples as silty sandy soil with gravel content (SC-SM designation under Unified Soil Classification). Key test parameters include sieve analysis, Atterberg limits (liquid limit, plastic limit, and plasticity index), water content determination, laboratory compaction characteristics, Los Angeles abrasion testing, and expansion index measurements. Testing revealed water contents ranging from approximately 9.1 to 10.5 percent, dry unit weights between 120.5 and 121.3 lbf/ft³, and plasticity indices ranging from 4 to 7. The report indicates all material was processed through dry preparation methods using AASHTO T89 Method B compaction testing. Assumed bulk specific gravity values of 2.60 were utilized for calculations, and all testing was conducted under the standard of care practices locally recognized for the referenced methodologies, with results relating only to the condition and samples observed at the time and place of testing.
