About this file
This is a Soil/Aggregate Test Report prepared by Western Technologies Inc. for the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) on the Kingman-Ash Fork Highway (I-40) project in Kingman, Arizona. The report documents laboratory testing of native soil samples collected from three locations along the I-40 west corridor near Kingman for highway ramp construction purposes. Testing was conducted on samples collected on January 15, 2025, with results reviewed on January 24, 2025. The samples were analyzed for classification, compaction characteristics, sieve analysis, plasticity properties, salt content, pH determination, and expansion index using standard AASHTO and ASTM testing methods. All three samples were classified as silty sand with gravel (SC-SM) soils with varying compositions, with sample locations identified at station points 2956+92, 2967+76, and 2974+20 along the highway corridor.
The testing results indicate soil parameters suitable for earthwork and stockpile applications in highway construction. The three samples demonstrated maximum dry unit weights ranging from approximately 120.5 to 123.5 lbf/ft³ with corresponding optimum water content values between 9.1 and 11.8 percent. Plasticity indices ranged from 3 to 7, and fines content (material passing No. 200 sieve) varied from 17 to 20 percent across samples. All samples showed low organic matter content (1 percent or less) and acceptable chemical properties including sulfate and chloride levels suitable for highway embankment construction. The report was prepared under standard professional practices and relates only to the condition of samples tested at the specified time and location, with restrictions on reproduction without prior written approval from Western Technologies Inc.
