About this file
This is a Soil/Aggregate Test Report prepared by Western Technologies Inc. for the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) Project H681401C, Kingman-Ash Fork Highway (I-40), conducted for Pulice Construction, Inc. The report documents laboratory testing of native earthwork material from stockpile locations along I-40 west of Kingman, Arizona, specifically for highway ramps construction. Three soil samples were collected and tested on January 15, 2025, from station locations 2956+92, 2967+76, and 2974+20. Testing included sieve analysis, Atterberg limits (liquid limit, plastic limit, and plasticity index), water content determination, compaction characteristics per AASHTO T89 Method B, and Los Angeles abrasion testing. All samples were classified as silty sand with gravel (SC-SM classification) with dry unit weights ranging from 120.5 to 123.5 lbf/ft³ and water content ranging from 9.1 to 10.5 percent. The testing methodology followed AASHTO and ASTM standards including AASHTO R58 for dry preparation and ASTM D2487 for soil classification.
The test report provides material characterization essential for subgrade preparation and earthwork quality assurance for the Flying Fortress Parkway Phase II project and related I-40 improvements. Material source was identified as native soil excavated from west and east of the highway corridor. Key specifications evaluated include grain size distribution, plasticity characteristics, compaction parameters, and aggregate durability through Los Angeles abrasion testing. Results indicate the native material meets requirements for highway ramp construction with acceptable density and moisture characteristics. The report was reviewed by project personnel including Brian Dean (Project Manager) and J. Van Vliet, with testing performed under standard engineering practice protocols. This documentation serves as baseline verification for earthwork quality control during construction of the roadway and drainage improvements specified in the Flying Fortress Parkway Phase II contract.
