About this file
This Task Group Instruction (TGI) details an inspection and preservation procedure for the port and starboard anchor and anchor chain assembly on the USS Blue Ridge (LCC-19). The document provides comprehensive step-by-step instructions for removing, inspecting, and reinstalling the anchor and chain components, with strict requirements for visual and technical inspections. Key procedural steps include removing existing equipment, conducting detailed visual examinations for damage or wear, performing magnetic particle testing on components, measuring wire diameters, and lubricating parts with sea water wash resistant grease.
The TGI is part of a larger ship repair and maintenance project scheduled from January 12, 2026 to May 15, 2027, with work to be performed at Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka. Specific technical requirements include zero tolerance for defects such as cracking, distortion, corrosion, or wear on anchor components. The document mandates precise documentation, including submitting inspection reports to the supervisor and ensuring proper marking and reassembly of detachable links and chain components. Supporting services will be provided by SRF-JRMC, including crane and utility services, safety inspections, and quality assurance.
