About this file

This document is a Task Group Instruction (TGI) for cleaning, inspecting, repairing, and preserving CHT Tank No. 3 on the USS BLUE RIDGE (LCC-19), a naval vessel. The specific work involves comprehensive maintenance of the tank and associated components, including commercial blast cleaning, visual inspection, repair of deteriorated welds and plate defects, replacement of zinc anodes and pipe hangers, and surface preservation. The tank is located in multiple ship compartments, has a capacity of 11,772 gallons, and requires detailed procedures for structural integrity assessment and restoration.

The TGI provides extensive technical specifications for the work, including requirements for surface preparation, nondestructive testing, weld repairs, and coating applications. Key technical details include removing and installing 22 zinc anodes, repairing up to one linear foot of deteriorated welds, base metal weld buildup of 60 square inches, and replacement of 10 square feet of deteriorated plate. The work is scheduled to begin on 1/12/2026 and complete by 5/15/2027, with specific instructions for dealing with potential hazards like asbestos and lead, and requirements for fire zone boundary protection and non-flammable closures.
