About this file
This document is a Task Group Instruction (TGI) for the USS BLUE RIDGE (LCC-19), specifically addressing cleaning, inspection, repair, and preservation of clean salt water ballast (tank 9-52-0-W) and fresh water ballast (tank 9-48-0-W). The TGI details a comprehensive maintenance process involving multiple locations including the ballast tanks, anti-roll tank, and several storerooms. Key technical requirements include commercial blast cleaning, visual inspections for structural integrity and coating condition, welding and plate repairs, removal of unused brackets and studs, and surface preparation and coating application.
The work is scheduled to begin on 1/12/2026 and complete by 5/15/2027, with specific procedural steps for cleaning (Level III cleanliness), surface preparation, repairs, and documentation. Special requirements include working near a fire zone boundary, necessitating a non-flammable closure, and potential lead hazard considerations. The instruction involves multiple technical disciplines including laborers, painters, welders, quality assurance personnel, and safety technicians, with various inspection and quality control measures integrated throughout the maintenance process.
