Function/adjacencies: Design the Hangar Bay as a twelve bay maintenance space for twelve (12) F35B aircraft-(six (6) per squadron).

Provide direct access to adjacent first floor maintenance shops and their ancillary spaces – as well as direct flight line access via the hangar bay doors.

Special Dimensions: Provide the required clear-span plan dimensions per UFC 4-211-01 but no less than 270’-6” x 95’-0” min per squadron, with an overall hangar bay clear dimensions of 548’-0” x 95’-0” min. Provide a minimum ceiling height of 32’-6” clear, free from all encumbrances, including bridge cranes, mechanical equipment and bay-dividing Hangar Curtain(s) in stored position. NOTE: Bay 1 and 12 shall be sized to accommodate a F-35C model aircraft in the wings down configuration of 43’-0” wide.

Acoustics: There are no special acoustic requirements for the HANGAR Bay space, though there are acoustic requirements for spaces, including the SECURE SPACE AREA, adjoining the full height CMU wall separating first and second floor building functions from the Hangar Bay.

Access: Provide personnel access from first floor CORRIDOR and adjacent first floor maintenance shops and offices where indicated, provide personnel access to the exterior by personnel doors, and provide exterior aircraft access to the Hangar Bay via Vertical Lift Fabric Doors Horizontal Sliding Steel Hangar Doors with integral personnel doors. Hangar Bay doors must comply with UFGS Section 08 34 16.2010, May 2014 with change 1 – 07/122017 with modifications. Provide exterior access via standard personnel doors at each of the Hangar Bay that comply with life safety. It is desired to have each squadron module clear of any structural columns with only retractable fabric door rails between doors.

Number of Occupants: Unknown- dependent on Maintenance of aircraft.

Other/special requirements: Provide “point access” catwalks with ladders at each bay to provide service access for Vertical Lift Fabric Doors Horizontal Sliding Steel Hangar Doors and bridge cranes. Provide platforms and ladders to enable service of bridge cranes. Second floor windows overlooking the Hangar Bay are not permitted except from indicated rooms. Provide two (2) 5-ton bridge cranes with hook height set by UFC. Provide required fall protection coordinated with bridge crane travel. Incorporate an approved Avian Intrusion Prevention System in the hangar bay.

Regarding painting of the Hangar Bay structural steel, see Part 3 of this RFP, Chapter 2 - Project Objectives, 2.6 Special Design Challenges.
