About this file
This document contains questions and answers regarding a solicitation for renovations to an Air Force facility. The solicitation requires installation of a Sika flooring system comprising five layers of resinous coatings, including Sika Floor 161, Sika Floor 264 with silica, Sika Floor 264 grout coat, and two Sika Floor 340 topcoats. One question asks if only one coat of Sika Floor 161 and one coat of Sika Floor 264 can be applied as specified, rather than the full Sika system. The response clarifies that the specification discusses components but does not limit the number of applications and that the manufacturer's requirements define proper application to provide a durable, warranted flooring system.

Question: One of our epoxy flooring contractors has stated the following. _We have taken a look at the resinous flooring specifications for this project, and they do not add-up. The Sika Floor Morritex flooring system is recommended in the specifications (and also recommended by us for this type of environment), and is comprised of 5-layers of resinous coating. The layers consists of: Sika Floor
161; Sika Floor 264 with Silica; Sika Floor 264 Grout Coat; and Two Sika Floor 340 Topcoats.
However, immediately following this suggestion in the specifications, it warrants that only one coat of
Sika Floor 161 be applied, and one coat of Sika Floor 264 be applied. If this particular suggestion is followed, the floor is doomed for failure.
Are we to provide the warranty per the specified flooring manufacturer Silka Floor Morritex flooring system? Please Advise
45 CES Response: The requirement is to use a Sika system (or approved equal) and all components to make that work, with a minimum of the two coats listed. The spec discusses only components, does not limit the number of applications per components, and does not eliminate other coatings that manufacturer may require. The manufacturer will define how their product is properly applied. Final product must be durable, leave professional appearance, and warrantied.
