About this file
This is a Statement of Structural Tests and Special Inspections prepared by DCI Engineers for the National Park Service Denver Service Center. The document covers PMIS Number 218998, "Rehabilitate and Stabilize Chapin Mesa Historic Buildings" at Mesa Verde National Park, and was prepared in accordance with Chapter 17 of the 2021 International Building Code (IBC-21).
The statement establishes that the site is in Seismic Design Category A and is not subject to special inspections based on seismic or wind force-resisting requirements, as the existing sandstone walls act as shearwalls with wood framed roof and floor diaphragms. The document provides a comprehensive 13-page checklist of required structural tests and special inspections covering steel construction, concrete construction, wood construction, and soils work. Key inspection categories include welding procedures and qualifications (requiring AWS-CWI certified inspectors), bolting inspections (requiring ICC-SSBSI certification), concrete placement and reinforcement (requiring ACI-FTT certification), wood framing verification (requiring EIT/PE qualification), and soil bearing capacity verification (requiring NICET-ST certification). The Construction Contractor's Quality Control Supervisor must provide copies of all special inspection reports to the Contracting Officer, and the contractor is required to correct all deficiencies discovered during the inspection and testing program. The document was signed and stamped by Professional Engineer Lindsey Bosworth on September 19, 2024.

Seismic and Wind Requirements
Seismic Requirements, IBC-21 Section 1704.3
Description of seismic-force-resisting system and designated seismic systems subject to special inspections:
The seismic resisting system consists of existing sandstone walls, acting as shearwalls, with wood framed roof and floor diaphragms. The site is in Seismic Design Category A, and therefore is not subject to special inspections based on seismic force-resisting requirements. The walls are also existing with no new shearwalls constructed. None of the roof or floor diaphragms are high loaded diaphragms thus there are no inspection requirements for any part of the seismic resisting system.
Wind Requirements, IBC-21 Section 1704.3
Description of wind-force-resisting system and designated wind systems subject to special inspections:
The wind force resisting systems consist of the same elements noted above. The site is not subject to special inspections based on wind-force-resisting requirements.
