Electrical Design Narrative Scope of Work The Electrical (Division 26) Scope of work will include support for the following on the
Chalmers P. Wylie VA Medical Center campus:
1. Existing receptacles in the Data Center shall be evaluated and replaced as required.
Additional receptacles will be provided to meet the requirements of the ISTS guidelines.
Receptacles shall be served from the critical branch panelboards.
2. Existing electrical panels serving the Data Center will be evaluated for age and/or capacity and replaced as needed.
3. The critical branch Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) serving existing Uninterruptible
Power Supplies (UPS’s) in the data center will be evaluated for age and/or capacity and replaced as needed. The essential sources (Normal and emergency) serving critical branch ATS’s for the data will be evaluated for existing capacity and future loads.
4. Phasing will be coordinated with existing operation to minimize any disruption of service.
New Work
1. The Data Center shall be provided with two (2) 208V, 3ph, power bus bars served from two (2) UPS equipment. The bus bars will be coordinated with cable trays, ductwork, and lighting. The UPS’s shall be fed from the critical branch of the essential electrical system of the VA campus. Each rack shall have two sources of power, one connecting into each bus bar. Vertical and horizontal Power Distribution Units (PDU) will be provided for racks to comply with the ISTS / OEHRM guidelines. Power will be provided to the new CRAC’s.
2. A new distribution panel will be provided for the entire Data center. Fire control relays from the Fire Alarm Control Panel will be connected to the Distribution Panelboard to shut down power to the server room in case of a fire in the Data Center. An Emergency
Power Off (EPO) switch will also be provided for a manual shutoff of the Distribution
Panelboard.
3. The existing perimeter receptacles and the rack power will be re-fed from the nearby critical panelboard. A new Critical Panelboard will be provided in each TR room where there is not enough spare breakers on the existing critical panelboard nearby. Rack

PDU’s and rack UPS’s will be relocated to new racks. Lighting in existing TRs will be brought up to latest standards and changed to LED where fluorescent is existing.
4. Security cameras will be relocated to avoid racks as required. New request to exit motion sensors will be provided where none is existing. Existing motion sensors will be networked to new PACS. A Panic/ Duress button will be added by the door per PSRDM requirements.

VA H-18-8 SEISMIC DESIGN REQUIREMENTS
BICSI AND EIA/TIA STANDARDS AS DEFINED IN VA PG-18-10
Electrical Demolition Basic Assumptions:
1. No circuits are shared between the area of work and adjacent spaces.
2. Equipment being demolished can be de-energized prior to the contractor performing any work so that work on live equipment will not be required.
3. This project will not include the removal of any equipment containing PCBs
Demolition of electrical work will include:
1. Existing Lighting in the Server Room and Telecommunication Rooms (TR’s).
2. Existing General Receptacles in the TR’s.
Building Power Distribution Systems All building power distribution systems requiring modification or expansion are 208Y/120V.
The new power distribution will be installed and brought online while maintaining all the existing power distribution for the Server Room and TR’s.
Electrical Calculations Voltage drop calculations will be performed for all new feeders and branch circuits. Feeders and branch circuits will be sized to limit voltage drop to the levels recommended by the energy code (2% for feeders, 3% for branch circuits, with the combined drop no more than 5%).
Preliminary fault currents will be calculated to determine the available interrupting current (AIC) rating at the primary and secondary sides of the transformer and at the loads they serve.
These calculations will be performed via SKM PowerTools for Windows software. Final fault current and arc-flash calculations will be performed by the electrical equipment supplier and based upon installed equipment on the project. A protective device coordination study will also be performed by the electrical equipment supplier and all recommended settings will be implemented at the time of installation.
General Electrical Equipment
Switchboards and Distribution Panelboards
New distribution panelboards will be sized for the loads they serve and include 30% spare capacity and spare space. Panelboard bussing will be copper. The distribution
