D.1 PACKING AND PACKAGING

Packaging, Handling, Storage, & Transportation (PHS&T) describes the resources, processes, procedures, design considerations, and methods to ensure that all deliverables (including subsystem, equipment, and support items) are preserved, packaged, handled, stored, and transported properly to assure delivery at the destination to prevent deterioration and damage due to shipping, handling and storage hazards. Included are environmental considerations and equipment preservation requirements for short- and long-term storage and transportability.

All deliverables under this contract must be preserved and packaged in accordance with (IAW) specifications and standards identified in the latest version of American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) D3951-15 by the FAA to assure delivery of undamaged goods to the destination. All deliverables should be preserved and packaged to prevent deterioration and damage due to shipping, handling, and storage hazards. Preservation and packaging standards for equipment must be sufficient to allow for a minimum of two (2) years of storage.

The Contractor must prepare packaging materials IAW ASTM D3951-15, Standard Practice for Commercial Packaging, and its subsections D4169, D5118, D6039, D6251/D6251M-11, D6253- 10, D6256, D7478. In addition, contractor must prepare packaging materials IAW the latest version of the Department of Defense MIL-STD-2073/1E, Standard Practice for Military Packaging, subsections J.4.7, J.4.8, J.4.9, J.4.12, J.4.14, C.5.2.5(b). The Contractor must adhere to these standards for packaging and storage for the duration of the contract.

Unless otherwise directed by the Contracting Officer (CO) or Contracting Officer’s representative (COR), the Contractor must prepare Quantity per Unit Pack (QUP) IAW ASTM D3951-15, Subsection 5.1.2. If the packages of this standard will not provide the protection required for the type of material being shipped, the Contractor must use other materials, containers, or processes provided they meet or exceed the applicable container requirements as specified in ASTM D3951- 15.

D.1.1. Electrostatic Discharge (ESD)
