PROJECT NAME: Joliet CBOC Parking Expansion

TECHNICAL QUESTIONS – PART 2 AND VA RESPONSE TRACKING SHEET

ITEM

NO. QUESTION GOVERNMENT RESPONSE

1. The light fixture schedule on E602 does not seem to match up to the actual fixtures shown on the floor plans (EL-100 and EL-101)

Some examples –

Fixture D2A, D2B Shown on floor plan EL100-N But not listed on fixture schedule on E602

Fixture F3A, F3B, F3C Shown on floor plans But only F3 is on fixture schedule

Fixture F3A – On EL100-N this fixture is indicated as a 2x2 lay-in On EL101-N this fixture is indicated as a can light

On EL101-N This plan has some F9 and F10 fixtures shown However, they are not listed on the fixture schedule

An incorrect Lighting Fixture Schedule was issued with the bid documents. We have inserted the correct fixture schedule on plans and will need to reissue the sheet or provide as an attachment the correct Lighting Fixture Schedule. See Joliet CBOC Elect. Add. 2 230726 attached.

2. What is the overall concept for the new site lighting that goes into the existing parking areas?

Obviously, these areas are already paved.

Does the pavement get removed and replaced, or are we supposed to directional bore new conduits under the existing paving ?

New conduit under existing paving will be required.

3. There is a nurse call riser on E507 Does this riser represent the new work we need to include in this bid?

I do not find any nurse call devices shown on any of the floor plans.

The nurse call devices will need to be removed and reinstalled as part of the ceiling demolition. The contractor must extend as required all conduit and wire to new locations as required by the renovation to include but not limited to Single Patient Stations, Double Stations, EM/LAV Stations with pull cords, Corridor Lights, Nurse Annunciator, Duty Station, Staff EM Station, Domeless Duty Controller, Master Nurse Console, Marquee, etc. The existing system must remain operational where patient care is ongoing. Some devices are hidden in-wall and ceilings which may be affected by renovations. This contractor shall coordinate all work as required to maintain existing nurse call system such that it is fully operational after construction. Contractor should estimate 25% of existing systems to be temporarily relocated/replaced for mechanical/electrical demolition/installation.

4. Please provide additional time for this procurement.

Many phases overlap.

54. Does any of the work need to be done outside of normal working hours?

Yes, Phase C5 relating to demolition of the HVAC riser chase is to be performed over the weekend. Contractor should anticipate off-hours (2nd shift) work for the entirety of Phase C5.

55. Is there enough room in the ceiling area for the new ductwork and piping with the existing duct and piping not being removed until everything is running?

The new heating water piping may be able to be installed with existing ductwork and steam piping in place. We do not anticipate that the majority of the ductwork can be installed without first demolishing the existing ductwork, therefore the phasing plan which is presented in the bid documents.

The ductwork design as presented in the bid documents assumes demo of existing ductwork prior to install of the majority of the new ductwork. Phases C6E and C6W are separated such that the entire area is demolished, replaced, and turned back over in a single period (~7 weeks).

56. There is nothing on the drawing about the Snow melt system for the front entrance, does it use steam and a heat exchanger?

Provide a new shell & tube heat exchanger sized for existing snowmelt area and to match existing steam heat exchanger capacity – approximately 1000 SF of snowmelt in the drive thru area. Provide new hot water heating piping and controls to connect to new hot water heating system main piping in corridor west of the existing mech room – Approximately 40 LF of 1 ¼” copper piping with ball isolation valves, control valve, and associated accessories.

57. Are contractors expected to use a temporary boiler or are those connections on the drawings for future MP 101N?

A temporary boiler system is anticipated due to the need to shut down the steam plant and replace it with new heating water boilers, while heating and/or terminal unit reheat is needed year-round. Bidders shall include in their pricing the ability to heat and ventilate the building for the duration of construction schedule which will most likely require a temporary hot water boiler system during steam plant demo and new construction and commissioning. Refer to phasing drawings GC-001 through GC-011

58. On M 601 AHU note #6 says the humidifier manifold is internal to the unit rated at 725 lbs./ph., the humidifier is rated for 300lbs/ph. Is that the correct manifold?

Please confirm.

The steam distribution manifold should be 300 lb/hr to match the steam generating humidifier.

59. On M 504 #8 detail there are no circuit setters for the VAV coils. Is that correct?

We do not feel the need for circuit setter is needed for these small coils which typically have 2-position control valve

60. Is the contractor responsible for replacing the domestic water heater? If so, please provide specifications and updated drawing to show this work.

No, existing water heater to remain.

61. Drawings in C1.1 has info about existing contour lines.

Please provide new drawing for C1.1- Topographic survey which clearly shows proposed contour lines?

There are spot elevations on the drawings that show design intent. Proposed contours would provide additional information, but nothing that should impact the bidder’s cost.

Updated drawings could be provided as part of the construction process.

Delinquent RFIs

62. Please confirm the concrete apron is to receive #6 bars at 8" on center

79. It appears an Additional or supplemental Schedule information defining conditions for the Inlet/outlet of each Supply and Exhaust paths for Summer and Winter Peak Design loads i.e.) DbF/WbF, CFM (either Std or at Altitude) are needed.

These additional defining conditions are not anticipated to affect the bidding and are rather questions for the design team once project is awarded. Design intent is for AHU to have heat pipe energy recovery system to meet code requirements. A portion of the basis of design AHU heat pipe heat recovery section is included for reference.

80. The door vendor is indicating the specified slider door by Nabco is called out to be 73”. The minimum frame width for the Nabco is 76”. Please confirm that Door 001 can have a 76” width if the Nabco GT1400-02 is wanted. Or please issue a new BOD for a slider that can be 73”W.

The door frame is to be 76”.

The 73” as shown in the door schedule refers to the width of the door itself and does not include the frame.

81. Please reference spec section 08 80 00 section 3.8.

The spec states 1” overall unit thickness, however, with the outboard lite minimum thickness at ~1/4”(0.23 inch) thick and both lites used for the inboard laminated lite with a minimum thickness of ~1/4”(0.23 inch) thick, the overall unit size will exceed 1”. Are the laminated IGUs required to be 1” thick overall or will a thicker overall unit be acceptable to accommodate the laminated inboard requirements?

The overall unit thickness will be larger than 1” due to the laminated glass.

Figure on a unit thickness of ~1 5/16”.

Disregard references to a 1” unit thickness.

82. (Reference RFI #81) - If these must be 1” overall and cannot be thicker, please provide a revised spec for this glass.

See RFI #81 response.

83. (Reference RFI #81) - For the Low-E coating, the spec calls out First surface and Second surface.
