About this file

This document is a technical specification section (09 22 16) for Non-Structural Metal Framing for the Fargo Veterans Affairs Healthcare System (VAHCS) project located in Fargo, North Dakota. The specification provides detailed requirements for steel stud wall systems, shaft wall systems, ceiling or soffit suspended/furred framing, wall furring, fasteners, and accessories for attaching gypsum board and other building boards. Key technical requirements include using galvanized steel studs with a G40 coating, a minimum base-metal thickness of 0.75 mm, and specific installation guidelines such as spacing studs no more than 610 mm (24 inches) on center, cutting studs 6-9 mm shorter than floor-to-ceiling height, and ensuring proper bracing and attachment methods.

The specification covers installation criteria for various scenarios including fire-rated construction, wall furring, shaft wall systems, and suspended ceilings. It references multiple ASTM standards for material and installation requirements, and provides detailed instructions for supporting electrical outlets, plumbing fixtures, and other building components. Tolerances are strict, with fastening surfaces required to vary no more than 3 mm (1/8-inch) from layout lines, and vertical members and ceilings required to be plumb and level within the same 3 mm tolerance. The project is scheduled for site preparation with an anticipated completion date of 1-22-2025, with an additional date of 08/29/2025 noted.
