David P. Holden Questions and Answers Project 657-18-110 Supplement

1. On sheet AW201 in Volume 3 – Improve Wayfinding, there are two sign types shown that are to be used at Bldg. 7 / JC Campus which are not included in the Sign Location Plans in Volume 3:

O - Fire Extinguisher Signage L - Wall & Hanging Restroom Signage Are Sign Types O and L part of the scope of work? If so, where are the signs located? How many of each type are to be included?

Answer: See Vol. 2 sheet 7-1-AE-901 interior elevations 9 and 10 for locations and usage of Sign Types L-Wall and L-Hanging (sheet 7-1-AE-901 attached for reference).

Sign Type ‘O’-Fire Extinguisher Cabinet in Bldg. 7, I have asked our consultant to investigate further as it shows in the drawing Vol. 3-Sheet AW201 (copy attached for reference). No new fire extinguisher/cabinet is included in the work for Bldg. 7. Drawings 7-1-AE-101 and 7-1-GI-101 (attached for reference) do not indicate a FEC/fire extinguisher in the corridors of Bldg. 7.

If an existing fire extinguisher cabinet (FEC) or wall-mounted fire extinguisher is present in the corridors, and such a sign isn’t currently in place, it would be installed on the center line above the cabinet/extinguisher wall bracket, with the bottom of the sign at +7’-0” Above Finish Floor (AFF). If the ceiling above the cabinet/bracket is less than 7’-9” high, the top of the sign will need to be placed directly below the ceiling as the sign is 9-inches tall.

2. Please clarify the scope of Wayfinding Improvements in the Tunnels at Jefferson Barracks.

a. General Note 9 on Sheets JC1-AW100 through JBT-AW110 in Volume 3 reads: “Provide quantity (15) fifteen inserts for existing tunnel wall hung directories which are remaining ... See symbol “TDX” for locations. Sign Locations Plans do not show symbol “TDX”, but they do show a symbol “K” which is the designation for the Tunnel Map on AW201. Is the “K” symbol used in lieu of “TDX”? What is the total quantity of inserts needed? Do the existing wall hung directories have a clear cover to protect the replacement inserts?

Answer: A2a: BDG - Revise Note 9 to read as follow:

1. PROVIDE QUANTITY (15) FIFTEEN INSERTS FOR EXISTING TUNNEL WALL HUNG DIRECTORIES WHICH ARE REMAINING. INSERT NOMENCLATURE WILL BE PROVIDED AT TIME OF SHOP DRAWING PROCESS IN ORDER TO PROVIDE MOST CURRENT BUILDING NUMBER INFORMATION AT THAT TIME AND COORDINATE NOMENCLATURE. VERIFY LOCATIONS IN FIELD WITH VA COR.

Clarification:

TDX is referencing a wall hung tunnel directory. The tunnel directories are similar to the directory image attached. The total quantity of inserts is (15) as indicated in Note 9. The Signage Types shown on the drawings with symbols, such as ‘K’, are new signs intended to supplement the existing signage.

b. General Note 10 on Sheets JC1-AW100 through JBT-AW110 in Volume 3 reads: “Provide quantity (50) fifty inserts for existing tunnel wall hung directories which are remaining ... See symbol “BDX” for locations. There are no “BDX” symbols in the Tunnels, however, there is one shown on JC1-AW102 (Level 2 of John Cochran), one shown on JB1-AW106 (Level 00 of Jefferson Barracks), two shown on JB1-AW107 (Level 1 of Jefferson Barracks) and two shown on JB1-AW108 (Level 2 of Jefferson Barracks). Please provide a drawing and description of sign type “BDX”, and advise total quantity needed.

Answer: A2b: BDG - Revise Note 10 to read as follow:

1. PROVIDE QUANTITY (50) FIFTY INSERTS FOR EXISTING BUILDING WALL HUNG DIRECTORIES WHICH ARE REMAINING. INSERT NOMENCLATURE WILL BE PROVIDED AT TIME OF SHOP DRAWING PROCESS IN ORDER TO PROVIDE MOST CURRENT BUILDING NUMBER INFORMATION AT THAT TIME. SEE SYMBOL "BDX" FOR LOCATIONS.

Clarification:

Provide (50) inserts as indicated in Note 10. BDX is applicable to Building Directories and is not applicable to the tunnels. The existing building directories are similar to the directory image attached.

3. Which of the firms in the “Interested Vendors List” are likely to bid as a Prime Contractor? Are there firms not on the list that may bid as a Prime Contractor?

Answer: We do not know who will bid as a Prime. Any company that qualifies under the set-aside requirements and is a VIP/CVE certified SDVOSB may bid.

4. Regarding sheet 7-1-AE-901, the woman’s portion of the bathroom, detail #5, shows what appears to be a two toilet roll holder(TA-3). Why was there not a sanitary napkin dispenser also included?

Answer: Equipment for the restrooms is shown and noted on interior elevations on sheet 7-1-AE-901 and scheduled on sheet 1-AE-601. Previous reviews have not called attention to this item. For sanitary napkin dispensers in Women’s Toilets, they can be surface-mounted to walls near the toilet paper dispensers in the two toilet stalls shown on Sheet 7-1-AE-901 elevations 5 and 7. Elevation 7 also needs to add TA-3 toilet paper dispenser.

Modifications needed to the drawings:

1. Sheet 1-AE-601 – Add to Furniture, Equipment & Accessories Schedule: TA-5 – Disposal, Sanitary Napkin, Contractor-Provided, Contractor-Installed, Mounted to wall or toilet partition.

1. Sheet 7-1-AE-101 – Add to Renovation General Notes: 32. Restroom Equipment: Refer to Interior Elevations Sheet 7-1-AE-901 and Furniture, Equipment & Accessories Schedule on Sheet 1-AE-601 for types and locations.

1. Sheet 7-1-AE901 –

2. Elevation 5 – Add Sanitary Napkin Dispenser TA-5 to mount on wall. Location to be coordinated with COR.

2. Elevation 7 – Add Sanitary Napkin Dispenser TA-5 and toilet paper holder TA-3. Locations to be coordinated with COR.

Specification Section 10 28 00 – Toilet Accessories – for whatever reason, sanitary napkin dispensers are not part of the VA standard specification taken from the TiL and need to be added. We will need to add to the specification Disposal, Sanitary Napkin, Stainless Steel, Surface Mounted, as item 2.4.1 – Disposal, Sanitary Napkin, Stainless Steel, Surface Mounted, as follows:

0. 2.4.1 SANITARY NAPKIN DISPENSERS

0. A. Surface mounted type for wall or toilet partition.

0. B. Fabricate of stainless steel.

0. C. Provide flip-up cover, secured to container by a heavy-duty stainless steel piano hinge.
