SECTION 01010 - SUMMARY OF WORK

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.01 WORK UNDER THIS CONTRACT

A. This project includes replacing of the existing 675-ton chiller 53CH-2 with a new 1200-ton chiller 53CH-2. The scope of work also includes replacing two exist primary district pumps with two new primary district pumps and the removal of the existing chiller and the two primary pumps. Options include:

1. Providing a magnetic bearing 1200-ton chiller in lieu of the specified conventional single speed centrifugal chiller.

1.02 RESPONSIBILITIES OF CONTRACTOR: Except as otherwise specifically stated in the contract, the Contractor shall provide and pay for all materials, labor, tools, equipment, transportation, supervision, temporary construction of every nature, fees, taxes legally collectible because of the work and all other services and facilities of every nature whatsoever necessary to execute the work to be done as shown and/or specified under the contract and deliver it complete and in every respect within the specified time. The Contractor will include in his price the listed cost of these items and will be responsible for purchasing the specific equipment from the listed source.

1.03 CONSTRUCTION DRAWINGS AND SPECIFICATIONS: The COR/CO will furnish up to 5 sets of contract drawings and specifications, without cost, to the Prime Contractor for his use in constructing the work. The Prime Contractor is to supply all contract drawings and specifications to the subcontractors or material suppliers. Additional sets or portions of the contract drawings and specifications, beyond the 5 sets furnished by the COR/CO, that are requested by the Prime Contractor will be furnished for the actual cost of printing at the Prime Contractor’s expense.

1.04 COORDINATION: Provide administrative and supervisory requirements necessary for coordination of work, including meetings, administrative and supervisory personnel, survey, records, reports, use of site limitations, installation provisions, cutting and patching, cleaning, protection, conservation and salvage. The prime contractor shall furnish a superintendent to be on the job site whenever work is being performed. The superintendent shall serve as a liaison between the contractor, the subcontractors, the COR/CO and the Owner’s personnel. The superintendent will be required to be present any time work is being done. Coordinate storage of materials and equipment with the COR/CO and the Physical Plant Director.

1.05 BUILDING OCCUPANCY: During the Contract Period, the building will be occupied. Cooperate fully with the Owner during construction operations to minimize conflicts and to facilitate the Owner’s personnel’s usage. Do not unreasonably obstruct, or interfere with, any phase of the Owner’s personnel’s operations. Make any changes in or alterations to existing facilities, including utility service, without disrupting continuous use by the Owner. Any shutdowns of services to any building will require 2 week’s written notice to the Physical Plant Director and COR/CO.

1.06 WORK SCHEDULE: Work will start within 5 days of Notice to Proceed and must continue without delay until completion. The start of work must be coordinated with the Owner.

1.07 CONTRACTOR USE OF PREMISES:

A. Limit use of premises to work indicated, allowing for Owner occupancy and public use when required.

B. Keep existing driveways and entrances serving premises clear and available to the Owner’s employees at all times. Do not use these areas for parking or storage of materials.

C. Do not unreasonably encumber site with materials or equipment. Confine stockpiling of materials and location of storage to areas in the building, to be assigned during the course of the project. The Contractor’s field office will be located at a site adjacent to the building, directed by the Physical Plant Director. If additional storage is necessary, obtain and pay for storage off site.

D. Contractor Use of Existing Building: Maintain existing buildings in safe and weather-tight condition throughout construction period. Repair any damage on property caused by construction operations. Take precautions necessary to protect building and building occupants during construction period.

E. Lock automotive type vehicles, such as passenger cars and trucks and other mechanized or motorized construction equipment, when parked and unattended, to prevent unauthorized use. Do not leave vehicles or equipment unattended with motor running or ignition key in place.

F. Smoking will not be permitted within the building.

G. Upon completion of the project the Contractor will be required to repair any portion of the facility damaged by the construction process at no expense to the Physical Plant Director.

1.08 INDUSTRY STANDARDS:

A. Applicability of Standards: Except where more explicit or stringent requirements are written into the contract documents, applicable construction industry standards have the same force and effect as if bound into or copies directly into the contract documents. Such industry standards are made a part of the contract documents by reference.

Individual specification sections indicate which codes and standards the Contractor must keep available at project site for reference.

B. Publication Dates: Except as otherwise indicated, where compliance with an industry standard is required, comply with standard in effect as of date of contract documents.

C. Conflicting Requirements: Where compliance with 2 or more standards is specified, and where these standards establish different or conflicting requirements for minimum quantities or quality levels, the most stringent requirement will be enforced, unless the contract documents specifically indicate otherwise. Refer requirements that are different, but apparently

01010 - 3 equal, and uncertainties as to which quality level is more stringent to the COR/CO for a decision before proceeding.

D. Copies of Standards: The Contract Documents require that each entity performing work be experienced in that part of the work being performed.

Each entity is also required to be familiar with industry standards applicable to that part of the work. Copies of applicable standards are not bound with the contract documents. Where copies of standards are needed for proper performance of the work, the Contractor is required to obtain such copies directly from the publication source.

E. Abbreviations and Names: Trade association names and title of general standards are frequently abbreviated. Where acronyms or abbreviations are used in the specifications or other contract documents they are defined to mean the recognized name of the trade association, Standards generating organization, governing authority or other entity applicable to the context of the text provisions.

1.09 PROJECT MEETINGS: The Contractor shall schedule and hold regular progress meetings to coordinate, expedite, and schedule work of contracts.

Hold additional meetings as progress of work dictates or when requested by the Physical Plant Director or the COR/CO. Send written notice of meeting date, time and place, and agenda of meeting to the Physical Plant Director, COR/CO, separate contractors, subcontractors and others as pertinent to the agenda.

Record results of meetings and distribute copies to everyone in attendance and to others affected by the decisions or actions resulting from each meeting.

SECTION 01230 - OPTIONS

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.01 RELATED DOCUMENTS

A. Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and other Division 01 Specification Sections, apply to this Section.

1.02 SUMMARY

A. Section includes administrative and procedural requirements for options.

1.03 DEFINITIONS

A. Option: An amount proposed by bidders and stated on the Bid Form for certain work defined in the bidding requirements that may be added to or deducted from the base bid amount if Owner decides to accept a corresponding change either in the amount of construction to be completed or in the products, materials, equipment, systems, or installation methods described in the Contract Documents.

1. Options described in this Section are part of the Work only if enumerated in the Agreement.

2. The cost or credit for each option is the net addition to or deduction from the Contract Sum to incorporate option into the Work. No other adjustments are made to the Contract Sum.

1.04 PROCEDURES

A. Coordination: Revise or adjust affected adjacent work as necessary to completely integrate work of the option into Project.

1. Include as part of each option, miscellaneous devices, accessory objects, and similar items incidental to or required for a complete installation whether or not indicated as part of option.

B. Notification: Immediately following award of the Contract, notify each party involved, in writing, of the status of each option. Indicate if options have been accepted, rejected, or deferred for later consideration. Include a complete description of negotiated revisions to options.

C. Execute accepted options under the same conditions as other work of the Contract.

D. Schedule: A schedule of options is included at the end of this Section.

Specification Sections referenced in schedule contain requirements for materials necessary to achieve the work described under each option.

3.01 SCHEDULE OF OPTIONS

A. Option 1: Provide a magnetic bearingless chiller.

SECTION 01300 - SUBMITTALS AND SUBSTITUTIONS

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.01 SCOPE: Provide all submittals, including shop drawings, product data, samples, schedules and requests for substitutions as required by the bidding and Contract Documents in strict accordance with the provisions of this section.

1.02 RELATED WORK

A. Contractual Requirements for Submittals: General Conditions and Supplementary Conditions.

B. Detailed Individual Submittals: Required are covered in pertinent sections of these specifications.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.01 SUBSTITUTIONS

A. The naming of specified items on the drawings or in the specifications means that such named items are specifically desired by the COR/CO and/or the Owner. The listed acceptable manufacturers may be submitted.

Contractor is responsible to meet every aspect of specification for equipment. As the result of substitution, any modification to the Mechanical Room layout or any modification to existing chiller and pump(s) systems to meet the design intent is the full responsibility of the Contractor.

B. Complete data must be submitted after award of contract on proposed substitutions. Submit samples for comparison and test where requested.

C. The COR/CO, after consultation with the Owner, will be the sole judge as to the equality and acceptability of proposed substitutions. ONLY

WRITTEN ACCEPTANCES WILL BE HELD VALID BY THE COR/CO.

D. Unless otherwise specified in individual sections, submit proposals for substitution within 7 days after award of contract.

E. If any substitution will affect a correlated function, adjacent construction, or the work of other trades or Contractors, the necessary changes and modifications to the affected work will be considered as part of the substitution, to be accomplished without additional cost to the Owner, if and when accepted.

F. Under no circumstances shall the COR/CO’s acceptance of any such substitution relieve the Contractor from timely, full and proper performance of the work.

2.02 SHOP DRAWINGS

A. Submit required shop drawings drawn to a scale sufficiently large to show all pertinent features of the item and its method of connection to the work.

Submit related shop drawings together, partial submittals will not be accepted. Provide manufacturer’s name and model number of prefabricated items and indicated methods of attachment and clearances required relative to other trades affecting all elements of the work. Identify deviations from the contract documents (if any), check dimensions, check

01300 - 2 that trades have been coordinated, and that no conflict will develop in this installation. After reviewing the shop drawings, indicate Contractor’s approval by signing and dating on Contractor’s stamp. Failure to follow these procedures will result in rejection of the submission and no additional contract time will be allowed for the delay from this cause.

B. Submit 1 electronic submittal of Contractor’s stamped and approved shop drawings for COR/CO’s review. The COR/CO will review and stamp it with indication of action as appropriate. The COR/CO will retain the electronic copy for their record, and will return an electronic copy to the Contractor.

For copies returned “Return for Correction - Re-Submit” correct the original drawings, make a new reproduction and print, and re-submit. For copies returned “Approved Subject to Contract Requirements” or “Approved as Noted”, provide each number of prints of the copies as may be needed for field distribution.

2.03 PRODUCT SAMPLES: Submit 5 copies of product samples for COR/CO’s review for items specified in the various specification sections. Make all submissions affecting color selection within 30 days after signing the contract.

Mark clearly to indicate exact items submitted, and note deviations from contract documents (if any). After reviewing the submittals, indicate approval by signing and dating on Contractor’s stamp, and submit to the COR/CO for review.

2.04 PROJECT SCHEDULE

A. Upon Award of Contract, a pre-installation conference will be scheduled to review and coordinate all phases of the site work. Detailed underground mechanical piping and underground electrical service installation plans, including but not limited to scheduling, pipe and cable sizes and types, routing, valves, splicing points, drops, pullboxes, tunnel crossings and terminations, shall be submitted at this time for review and approval.

B. Prior to commencement of work, submit to the COR/CO a bar chart type progress schedule indicating a time bar for each trade or operation of work to be performed in the building. Time bar shall demonstrate planned work, where work will be performed, properly sequenced and intermeshed for expeditious completion of work. Identify phases, if required.

C. Submit with bar chart a tabulation (by date) of all submittals required, either by date period relation in contract documents or as necessitated by lead time related to individual time bar shown on progress schedule for the associated work. At Contractor’s option, submittal dates may be shown on bar chart schedule, in lieu of being tabulated.

D. Submit monthly updates of bar chart, with pay request, accurately depicting actual progress to the first day of the month. Indicate percentage of completion on time bars at 10% increase.

E. Submit progress schedule on transparency or other reproducible stock.

F. Distribute progress schedule including all updates to COR/CO, Owner, Subcontractors, suppliers, fabricators, and others with a need to know schedule compliance requirements. Post copy in field office.

2.05 SCHEDULE OF VALUES: Submit schedule of values on AIA Document G703 (Continuation Sheet for G702). Itemize separate line cost for each major item of work and each subcontracted item of work (use individual Sections under Division 2 through 16 in Table of Contents as a basis for listed).

2.06 APPLICATION AND CERTIFICATION FOR PAYMENT: Submit Application and Certificate for Payment on AIA Document G702 and G703. A Consent of Surety for Final Payment form (AIA Document G707) and Contractor’s Affidavit of Payments of Debt and Release of Liens (AIA Document G706A) shall accompany final payment application.

2.07 MANUAL: Upon completion of work, and prior to the final payment, submit to the COR/CO a loose leaf hard cover binder with the project name printed on it, containing 5 indexed sections as follows:

A. Subcontractors: A listing of all subcontractors for the project, including portions of work done, address and telephone number of the firm, and contact at the firm familiar with the project.

B. Guarantee and Warranty: 1 fully executed copy of each guarantee and warranty period.

C. Certificates: 1 fully executed copy of each certificate specified.

D. Instructions: 1 operating service and maintenance manual or instruction sheet for each item specified, including a spare parts list.

E. List of As-Built Drawings, Record Drawings, Shop Drawings, Product Data and Samples.

2.08 DRAWINGS AND SUBMITTALS PACKAGE: Upon completion of the work and prior to the final payment, submit to the COR/CO a package labeled with the project name and containing 1 copy of all final record drawings in Revit, specifications, shop drawings, product data. Final drawings reproducible bond type. This package and the manual will be presented by the COR/CO to the Owner upon completion of the project. In addition, submit 1 set of record drawings to be retained by the COR/CO.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.01 IDENTIFICATION OF SUBMITTALS: Completely identify each submittal and re-submittal by showing at least the following information:

A. Name and address of submitter, plus name and telephone number of the individual who may be contacted for further information.

B. Name of project as it appears on each page of these specifications and COR/CO’s project number.

C. Drawing number and specifications section number to which the submittal applies.

D. Whether this is an original submittal or resubmittal.

3.02 TIMING OF SUBMITTALS

A. General: Make all submittals far enough in advance of scheduled dates of installation to provide all required time for reviews, for securing necessary

01300 - 4 approvals, for possible revision and re-submittal and for placing orders and securing delivery.

B. Delays: Costs of delays due to late submittals may be back charged as necessary and shall not be borne by the Owner.

01500 - 1

SECTION 01500 - CONSTRUCTION FACILITIES AND TEMPORARY CONTROLS

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.01 SCOPE: Provide temporary utilities and miscellaneous facilities required during construction, complete, during maintenance and removal.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.01 UTILITIES:

A. Temporary Utilities Furnished By Owner: After acceptance of existing conditions, use of existing utilities will be available at no cost to the Contractor.

1. Water: Provide necessary piping and fittings.

2. Electricity: Provide necessary temporary electric wiring. Provide area distribution boxes, meeting NEC and OSHA requirements, and so located that individual trades may use their own construction type extension cords to obtain adequate power and lighting for construction operations.

B. Temporary Utilities Furnished By Contractor:

1. Telephone: Contractor shall provide telephone and/or facsimile machine in the field office and shall bear all costs for temporary service.

2.02 SANITARY FACILITIES: The Contractor shall be allowed to use the existing toilets as available and as operable. Portable facilities will be provided as required by the Contractor. All portable facilities must be properly maintained by the Contractor.

2.03 FIELD OFFICE: Field office, storage facilities, supply and tool rooms will be located as designated by the Owner. Make the field office available to COR/CO throughout entire construction period.

2.04 PERSONNEL IDENTIFICATION: Provide identification badges for all employees. Badges shall have the Contractor’s name in not less than 12 point capital letters and employee’s identification name or number in not less than 24 point size. Provide letters and background in light and dark colors respectively (or dark and light) to facilitate easy reading.

2.05 PARKING AND STAGING AREAS: Contractor’s employees shall park in designated areas. Parking to be designated by the Owner. Staging areas will be provided near the building. The Contractor shall provide 6 foot high fencing with lockable access around any staging/storage area. Trailers may be used for staging/storage without fencing. However, suitable storage locations for trailers may not be readily accessible to the building.

2.06 CONSTRUCTION AIDS: Provide and maintain for the duration of construction temporary equipment and apparatus including scaffolds, hoists, tarpaulins, barricades, warning signs, steps, ladders, platforms, and other temporary construction aids and miscellaneous facilities as necessary for proper completion of the work; comply with pertinent safety regulations.

2.07 TEMPORARY FIRE PROTECTION: During construction period, provide and maintain types and forms of temporary fire protection needed to protect facilities against fire losses. Store combustible materials in recognized fire-safe locations and containers.

2.08 SECURITY: Provide sufficient controls to prevent illegal entry or damage during nights, holidays, or other periods when work is not being executed, and such other controls as required during working hours.

2.09 TEMPORARY PARTITIONS: Provide temporary barriers and/or partitions as required to protect the occupants of the building and the general public from injury due to the work of this project; and/or to protect adjacent areas of the building from the spread of dust and dirt caused by the work or this project.

Remove temporary barriers and partitions upon completion of the Project.

Temporary partitions shall be constructed of 1/2" plywood on the construction face nominal 2" X 4" wood studs and 1/2" gypsum wallboard on the public occupied face.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.01 REMOVAL: Maintain construction facilities and temporary controls as long as needed for safe and proper completion of work. Remove temporary facilities and controls as rapidly as progress of work will permit, or as directed by the COR/CO. All damages incurred by the installation and/or removal of all temporary services shall be repaired by the Contractor to its original condition.

SECTION 01900 - ALTERATION PROCEDURES

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.01 SCOPE: Procedural requirements for performing alteration of existing building, spaces and materials.

1.02 RELATED WORK:

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.01 PRODUCTS FOR PATCHING AND EXTENDING WORK:

A. New materials: As specified in individual Sections.

B. Match existing products and work for patching and extending work, unless otherwise specified.

C. Determine type and quality of existing products by inspection and by necessary testing, and workmanship, by use of existing as a standard.

Presence of a product, finish or type of work, requires that patching, extending, or matching shall be performed as necessary to make work complete and consistent with existing quality, unless otherwise specified.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.01 INSPECTION:

A. Verify that demolition is complete, and areas are ready for installation of new work.

B. Beginning of alteration work means acceptance of existing conditions.

3.02 PREPARATION:

A. If not previously performed under demolition work, cut, move or remove items as necessary for access to alteration work; replace and restore at completion. Note: Notify the Owner's Project Manager and receive approval prior to starting demolition work.

B. Remove unsuitable material; replace materials as specified for finished work.

C. Remove debris and abandoned items from area and from concealed spaces.

D. Prepare surfaces and remove surface finishes to provide for proper installation of new work and new finishes.

E. If not previously performed under demolition work, close openings in exterior surfaces to protect work from weather and extremes of temperature and humidity.

3.03 INSTALLATION:

A. Coordinate alteration work to expedite completion.

B. Remove, cut and patch work in a manner to minimize damage, and to provide means of restoring products and finishes to specified condition.

C. Refinish visible existing surfaces to remain to specified condition for each material, with a neat transition to adjacent new finishes.

3.04 TRANSITIONS:

A. Where new work abuts or aligns with existing, make smooth and even transition. Patched work shall match existing adjacent work in texture and appearance, unless both new and existing work to receive new surface treatment, and unless otherwise indicated.

B. When finished surfaces are cut so that a smooth transition with new work is not possible, terminate existing surface along a straight line at a natural line of division and make recommendation to the Owner.

3.05 REPAIR OF DAMAGED SURFACES:

A. Patch or replace portions of existing surfaces which are damaged, lifted, discolored, or showing other imperfections.

B. Repair substrate prior to patching finish.

3.06 FINISHES:

A. Finish surfaces as indicated and as specified in individual sections.

B. Finish patches to produce uniform finish and texture over entire area.

When finish cannot be matched, refinish entire surface to nearest intersections.

SECTION 02070 - SELECTIVE DEMOLITION

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.01 SCOPE:

A. Provide selective demolition work, complete, as indicated and as specified, including removal and disposal of demolished materials and capping of existing utilities.

B. Removal, protection and storage of items designated for re-use.

1.02 RELATED WORK:

A. Cutting of non-structural concrete floors, ceilings, masonry walls for piping, ducts and conduit will be the responsibility of the contractor.

B. Relocation of conduits and other electrical work; Division 16.

1.03 SUBMITTALS: Comply with Section 01300.

A. Before commencing selective demolition work, submit for review and approval of the COR/CO, a schedule showing the commencement, order and completion dates for the various parts of this work. Include coordination for shut-off, capping and continuation of utility services as required.

B. BEFORE STARTING ANY WORK RELATING TO EXISTING UTILITIES

THAT WILL TEMPORARILY DISCONTINUE SERVICE TO EXISTING

BUILDING, NOTIFY IN WRITING THE COR/CO AND/OR

CONSTRUCTION MANAGER ONE WEEK IN ADVANCE AND OBTAIN

APPROVAL BEFORE PROCEEDING WITH WORK. DO NOT

DISCONNECT OR DISRUPT SERVICE WITHOUT COR/CO’S AND/OR

CONSTRUCTION MANAGER’S PRIOR APPROVAL.

1.04 JOB CONDITIONS:

A. Occupancy: The Owner’s personnel will be occupying the building.

Conduct work in manner that will minimize need for disruption of the Owner’s normal operations.

B. Condition of Structure: The Owner assumes no responsibility for actual condition of items or portions of structure to be demolished.

C. Salvageable Items: Items indicated to be removed, and not designated for re-use, may be salvaged by Contractor only after the Construction Manager’s approval. Transport salvaged items from site as they are removed. Storage or sale of removed items on site will not be permitted.

D. Protections:

1. Provide protective measures as required to protect the Owner’s personnel and general public from injury due to selective demolition work.

2. Provide interior and exterior shoring, bracing, or support to prevent movement, settlement, and collapse of structure or element to be demolished, and adjacent facilities or work to remain.

3. Provide adequate fire protection in accordance with local Fire Department requirements.

4. Cover and protect floor, all existing equipment and fixtures to remain from soiling or damage when demolition work is performed in rooms or areas from which such items have not been removed.

5. Protect from damage existing finish work that is to remain in place and becomes exposed during demolition operations.

6. Provide temporary weather protection during interval between demolition and removal of existing construction on exterior surfaces, and installation of new construction to insure that no water leakage or damage occurs to structure or interior areas of existing building.

E. Damages: Promptly repair, to the satisfaction of the COR/CO, damages caused to existing structure or contents by demolition work or due to insufficiency of protection provided at no cost to the Construction Manager.

Replace damaged work, as directed by the COR/CO, if repair is not satisfactory.

F. Traffic: Conduct selective demolition operations and debris removal in a manner to ensure minimum interference with roads, streets, walks and other adjacent occupied or used facilities.

G. Explosives: Use of explosives will not be permitted.

H. Utility Services: Maintain existing utilities indicated to remain, keep in service, and protect against damage during demolition operations.

I. Environmental Controls: Use temporary enclosures, and other suitable methods to limit dust rising and scattering. Comply with governing regulations pertaining to environmental protection. Contractor shall isolate the area of work and provide sealed partition around existing boiler #2 to protect the existing equipment from dust and debris. Contractor shall submit plans to Owner and COR/CO for approval.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.01 DEMOLITION: Provide selective demolition as indicated and required for new work.

A. Proceed in a systematic manner. Use such methods as required to complete work indicated in accordance with demolition schedule and governing regulations.

B. Locate demolition equipment throughout structure and promptly remove debris to avoid imposing excessive loads on supporting walls, floors and framing.

3.02 DISPOSAL OF DEMOLISHED MATERIALS: Remove debris, rubbish and other materials resulting from demolition operations as the work progresses.

Transport and legally dispose of materials off site. Burning of debris will not be permitted on site.

3.03 CLEAN UP AND REPAIR:

A. Upon completion of selective demolition work, remove tools, equipment and demolished materials from site. Remove protections.

B. Repair demolition performed in excess of that required. Return structures and surfaces to remain to condition existing prior to commencement of selective demolition work. Repair adjacent construction and surfaces soiled or damaged by selective demolition work.

SECTION 02410 - TRADITIONAL ASBESTOS ABATEMENT

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.01 SCOPE:

A. Contract Documents and Related Requirements

1. Drawings, general provisions of the contract, including general and supplementary conditions and other Division 01 specifications, shall apply to the work of this section. The contract documents show the work to be done under the contract and related requirements and conditions impacting the project. Related requirements and conditions include applicable codes and regulations, notices and permits, existing site conditions and restrictions on use of the site, requirements for partial owner occupancy during the work, coordination with other work and the phasing of the work. In the event the Asbestos Abatement Contractor discovers a conflict in the contract documents and/or requirements or codes, the conflict must be brought to the immediate attention of the Contracting Officer for resolution. Whenever there is a conflict or overlap in the requirements, the most stringent shall apply. Any actions taken by the Contractor without obtaining guidance from the Contracting Officer shall become the sole risk and responsibility of the Asbestos Abatement Contractor. All costs incurred due to such action are also the responsibility of the Asbestos Abatement Contractor.

B. Extent of Work

1. Below is a brief description of the estimated quantities of asbestos containing materials to be abated. These quantities are for informational purposes only and are based on the best information available at the time of the specification preparation. The Contractor shall satisfy himself as the actual quantities to be abated. Nothing in this section may be interpreted as limiting the extent of work otherwise required by this contract and related documents.

2. Approximately 2,625 square feet of asbestos containing boiler insulation materials, rope, and gaskets shall be included as part of scope of work. Contact: Snyder Environmental, 124 W. Capital Avenue, Suite 1820, Little Rock, AR 72201, Office # 501-801-2776, Jay Dixon.

1.04 VARIATIONS IN QUANTITY

A. The quantities and locations of ACM as indicated on the drawings and the extent of work included in this section are estimated which are limited by the physical constraints imposed by occupancy of the buildings and accessibility to ACM. Accordingly, minor variations (+/- 5%) in quantities of ACM within the regulated area are considered as having no impact on contract price and time requirements of this contract. Where additional work is required beyond the above variation, the contractor shall provide unit prices for newly discovered ACM and those prices shall be used for additional work required under the contractor.

1.05 APPLICABLE CODES AND REGULATIONS

A. General Applicability of Codes, Regulations, and Standards

1. All work under this contract shall be done in strict accordance with all applicable Federal, State, and local regulations, standards and codes governing asbestos abatement, and any other trade work done in conjunction with the abatement. All applicable codes, regulations and standards are adopted into this specification and will have the same force and effect as this specification.

2. The most recent edition of any relevant regulation, standard, document or code shall be in effect. Where conflict among the requirements or with these specifications exists, the most stringent requirement(s) shall be utilized.

3. Copies of all standards, regulations, codes and other applicable documents, including this specification and those listed in Section 1.5 shall be available at the worksite in the clean change area of the worker decontamination system.

1.06 ASBESTOS ABATEMENT CONTRACTOR RESPONSIBILITY

A. The Asbestos Abatement Contractor (Contractor) shall assume full responsibility and liability for compliance with all applicable Federal, State and Local regulations related to any and all aspects of the asbestos abatement project. The Contractor is responsible for providing and maintaining training, accreditations, medical exams, medical records, personal protective equipment (PPE) including respiratory protection including respirator fit testing, as required by applicable Federal, State and Local regulations. The Contractor shall hold the NCTR and NCTR consultants harmless for any Contractor’s failure to comply with any applicable work, packaging, transporting, disposal, safety, health, or environmental requirement on the part of himself, his employees, or his subcontractors. The Contractor will incur all costs of the CPIH/CIH, including all sampling/analytical costs to assure compliance with

OSHA/EPA/State requirements related to failure to comply with the regulations applicable to the work.

1.08 STATE REQUIREMENTS

A. State requirements that apply to the asbestos abatement work, disposal, clearance, etc., include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. Regulation 21 Arkansas Asbestos Abatement Regulation (Air Division, Asbestos Program) (ADEQ).

1.09 NCTR RESPONSIBILITIES: Prior to commencement of work:

A. Notify occupants adjacent to regulated areas of project dates and requirements for relocation, if needed. Arrangements must be made prior to starting work for relocation of desks, files, equipment, and personal possessions to avoid unauthorized access into the regulated area. Note:

Notification of adjacent personnel is required by OSHA in 29 CFR

1926.1101 (k) to prevent unnecessary or unauthorized access to the regulated area.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.01 SUBMITTALS

A. Provide required project Documentation in accordance with Federal and State Requirements for Asbestos Abatement including but not limited to Medical Surveillance, Worker Certification, Daily Logs, Project Manual, Supervisor’s Reports and paperwork concerning the project.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.01 ABATEMENT: Provide Abatement and proper disposal of front burner box insulation, boiler insulation materials, mud drums, gaskets and rope seals and plates.

A. Proceed in a systematic manner. Use such methods as required to complete work indicated in accordance with abatement schedule and governing regulations.

3.02 DISPOSAL OF MATERIALS: Dispose of contaminated material in accordance with applicable Federal and State Regulations at a certified class one landfill.

3.03 CLEAN UP AND REPAIR:

A. Upon completion of abatement work, remove tools, equipment and demolished materials from site. Remove protections.

SECTION 03300 - CAST-IN-PLACE CONCRETE

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.01 SUMMARY: Cast-in-place concrete work, complete. Work includes:

A. Formwork, reinforcing steel, concrete materials, mix design, placement procedures, and finishes.

B. Furnishing of reinforcing steel bars for masonry work and tying bars after bars are in place.

1.02 RELATED WORK: Furnishing of structural steel base plates, anchor bolts, and other metal accessories for insertion in concrete, Section 05120.

1.03 SUBMITTALS

A. Product Data: Submit manufacturer's product data for reinforcement and forming accessories, admixtures, patching compounds, waterstops, joint systems, curing compounds, sealers, masonry anchors, and other as requested by Engineer.

B. Shop Drawings: Submit, prior to installation, 5 copies of shop drawings of reinforcing steel, including bar cutting lists, typical bar bend diagrams, construction of forms including jointing, reveals, location and pattern of form tie placement, and construction joint schedule with details.

C. Design Mixes: Prior to placement of concrete, submit concrete mix designs proposed by the concrete supplier, for class of concrete, including recent test results substantiating the quality of concrete produced by each mix.

D. Reports: Weekly reports of all compression, slump, and air content tests from the testing laboratory.

1.04 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Codes And Standards: Comply with the provisions of the following codes, specifications and standards, except where more stringent requirements are indicated or specified, and except as accepted or directed by Engineer during unusual climatic conditions.

1. ACI 301 "Specifications for Structural Concrete for Buildings."

2. ACI 318 "Building Code Requirements for Reinforced Concrete."

3. CRSI "Manual of Standard Practice."

B. Local Codes and Ordinances: Wherever provisions of the International Building Code or the local current ordinances are more stringent than the above specifications and standards, the local codes and ordinances shall govern.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.01 FORM MATERIALS

A. Forms For Exposed Finish Concrete: Plywood, metal, metal-framed plywood faced, or other acceptable panel-type materials, to provide continuous, straight, smooth, exposed surfaces.

B. Forms For Unexposed Finish Concrete: Use plywood, lumber, metal, or other acceptable material. If lumber is used, it must be dressed on at least 2 edges and 2 sides for a tight fit.

C. Form Coatings: Commercial formulation form coating compound with maximum VOC of 350 mg/l that will not bond with, stain, nor adversely affect concrete surfaces, will not impair subsequent treatments of concrete surfaces.

D. Form Ties: Factory-fabricated, adjustable-length, removable or snap-off metal form ties, designed to prevent form deflection and to prevent spalling concrete upon removal. Provide units that will leave no metal closer than 1-1/2" to exposed surface. Provide ties that, when removed, will leave holes not larger than 1" diameter in concrete surface.

2.02 REINFORCING MATERIALS

A. Reinforcing Bars: ASTM A 615(S1), Grade 60, deformed billet steel bars of grades indicated on drawings, free from loose rust, scale and other coatings that may reduce bond.

B. Mesh or Fabric Reinforcement: ASTM A 185, welded wire fabric, of sizes and types as indicated on drawings. Use flat sheets.

C. Supports For Reinforcement: Bolsters, chairs, spacers, and other devices necessary for properly spacing, supporting, and fastening reinforcement in place.

1. For slabs-on-grade, use supports with sand plates or horizontal runners where base material will not support chair legs.

2. For exposed-to-view concrete surfaces, where legs of supports are in contact with forms, provide supports with legs that are plastic protected (CRSI, Class 1) or stainless steel protected (CRSI, Class 2).

3. For footings, support reinforcing steel with wire, metal chairs, bolsters or other approved device; do not use bricks or stones.

2.03 CONCRETE MATERIALS

A. Portland Cement: ASTM C 150, Type I. Slag is not acceptable.

B. Normal Weight Concrete Aggregates: ASTM C 33, and as specified.

Provide aggregates from a single source for exposed concrete.

1. Fine Aggregate: Clean, sharp, natural or manufactured sand, free from loam, clay, lumps, or other deleterious substances.

2. Coarse Aggregate: Clean, uncoated, processed, locally available aggregate, containing no clay, mud, loam or foreign matter; maximum size of 1-1/2" at foundations and 1" at slabs.

C. Water: Clean and free from injurious amounts of oils, acids, alkalis, salts, organic materials, or other substances that may be deleterious to concrete or reinforcing.

D. Admixtures

1. Air Entrained Admixture: ASTM C 260.

2. Fly Ash: ASTM C 618, Class F or C.

3. Use only one class of fly ash from a single source.

4. Other Admixtures: Do not use other admixtures unless accepted by Engineer; added chlorides will not be accepted.

E. Miscellaneous Materials

1. Connectors: Provide metal connectors required for placement in cast-in-place concrete, for the attachment of structural and non-structural members.

2. Vapor Barrier: Polyethylene film, minimum 0.010" thick; Visqueen, or approved equal.

3. Expansion Joint Filler: ASTM D 1751, non-extruding premoulded material, 1/2" thick, unless otherwise noted, composed of fiberboard impregnated with asphalt.

4. Absorptive Cover: AASHTO M 182, Class 2, burlap cloth made from jute or kenaf, weighing approximately 9 oz. per sq. yd. when dry.

5. Moisture-Retaining Cover: ASTM C 171; polyethylene film or white burlap-polyethylene sheet.

6. Clear, Waterborne, Membrane-Forming Curing Compound: ASTM C 309, Type 1, Class B, dissipating. Conspec "W. B. Resin Cure", Euclid "Kurez DR VOX", W. R. Meadows "1100", L&M "L&M Cure R", or approved equal.

7. Clear, Waterborne, Membrane-Forming Curing Compound: ASTM C 309, Type 1, Class B, nondissipating, certified by curing compound manufacturer to not interfere with bonding of floor covering. Conspec "Cure And Seal WB", Euclid "Aqua Cure VOX", W. R. Meadows "Vocomp-20", L & M "Dress & Seal WB", or approved equal.

8. Clear, Water-Borne, Membrane-Forming Curing And Sealing Compound: ASTM C 1315, Type 1, Class A. Conspec "Sealcure 1315 WB", Euclid "Super Diamond Clear VOX", W. R. Meadows "Vocomp 30", BASF "Kure-N-Seal 25 LV", L&M "Lumiseal WB Plus", or approved equal.

9. Non-Shrink, Non-Metatallic Grout: Factory-packaged, nonstaining, noncorrosive, nongaseous grout complying with ASTM C 1107.

Provide grout specifically recommended by manufacturer for interior and exterior applications. BASF (Master Builders) "Masterflow 713 Plus", Euclid "Euco NS Grout", or W. R. Meadows "Sealtight 588 Grout".

10. Bonding Agent: ASTM C 1059, Type II, non-redispersible, acrylic emulsion or styrene butadiene.

11. Epoxy Bonding Adhesive: ASTM C 881, 2-component epoxy resin, capable of humid curing and bonding to damp surfaces. Provide material, type (non-load bearing or load bearing), grade, and class as required to suit project requirements.

12. Synthetic Fiber Reinforcement: Fibrillated polypropylene fibers complying with ASTM C 1116, Type III, 1/2" to 1=1/2" long; similar to SI Concrete "Fibermesh". Where indicated (fill at metal pan stairs):

Uniformly disperse in concrete mixture at manufacturer's recommended rate; submit for Engineer's approval.

13. Saw Cut Control Joint Filler: Elastomeric sealant.

2.04 PROPORTIONING OF MIXES

A. Proportion normal-weight strength as follows

1. Footings

a. Maximum Compressive Strength: Refer to structural drawings.

b. Maximum Water-Cementitious Materials Ratio: 0.50.

c. Slump Limit: 4" for concrete with verified slump of 2" to 4" before adding high-range water-reducing admixture or plasticizing admixture, plus or minus 1".

2. Foundation Walls

a. Maximum Compressive Strength: Refer to structural drawings.

b. Maximum Water-Cementitious Materials Ratio: 0.45.

c. Slump Limit: 4" without plastizers, 8" for concrete with verified slump of 2" to 4" before adding high-range water-reducing admixture or plasticizing admixture, plus or minus 1".

d. Air Content: 5-1/2%, plus or minus 1.5% at point of delivery for 1-3/4"nominal maximum aggregate size.

3. Slabs-On-Grade

a. Maximum Compressive Strength: Refer to structural drawings.

b. Maximum Water-Cementitious Materials Ratio: 0.45.

c. Slump Limit: 4", plus or minus 1".

d. Air Content: Do not allow air content of troweled finished floors to exceed 3%.

4. Elevated Slabs

a. Maximum Compressive Strength: Refer to structural drawings.

b. Maximum Water-Cementitious Materials Ratio: 0.45.

c. Slump Limit: 4", plus or minus 1".

5. Exterior Concrete Exposed To Weather

a. Minimum Compressive Strength: 4000 psi at 28 days, unless otherwise indicated on structural drawings.

b. Maximum Water-Cementitious Materials Ratio: 0.45.

c. Slump Limit: 4", plus or minus 1".

d. Air Content: 6%, plus or minus 1.5% at point of delivery for 3/4" nominal maximum aggregate size. Do not allow air content of troweled finished toppings to exceed 3%.

6. Concrete Toppings

a. Minimum Compressive Strength: 4000 psi at 28 days, unless otherwise indicated on structural drawings.

b. Maximum Water-Cementitious Materials Ratio: 0.45.

c. Slump Limit: 4", plus or minus 1".

B. Mix Designs

1. Prepare design mixes for each type of concrete, in accordance with ACI 301 and ACI 318.

2. Proportion design mixes by weight for class of concrete required, complying with ACI 211.

3. Mix For Flowable Fill: Comply with requirements of AHTD Section 206; minimum 28 day compressive strength of 500 psi.

4. Note: At columns, footings, and grade beams, up to 20% fly ash may be used to replace Portland cement by weight: subject to requirements of mix design, approval by Structural Engineer, results with actual materials to be used, and applicable codes.
