About this file

This is a technical specification document (Section 22 11 23) for Plumbing Pumps that establishes requirements for packaged domestic water booster pump systems in a federal construction project (DEVA 318717, effective January 17, 2025).

The specification requires furnishing complete, packaged domestic water booster pump systems with all necessary components for proper operation. Base manufacturers are limited to Towle Whitney and Amtrol, with optional alternatives including Tigerflow, Xylem/Bell and Gossett, and Federal, subject to approval. All wetted surfaces must be lead-free (<0.25% Pb) and NSF 61 rated per federal law. Each pump must include a separate and independent variable frequency drive (VFD) with pressure transducer, pressure gauge, and relief valve, isolation valves on suction and discharge piping, and a separate disconnect box. Centrifugal pumps must feature stainless steel 304 casings with 304 stainless steel impellers, 316 stainless steel shaft sleeves, and totally enclosed fan cooled (TEFC) motors compliant with CE, RoHS, and CSA standards, capable of operating at ambient temperatures up to 125 degrees Fahrenheit. The VFD must include hands-off automatic capability, 98% or better efficiency, UL approval, NEMA 1 rated enclosure, pump protection against motor overload and hydraulic damage, automatic restart capability, operator control panel, parameter upload/download capability, proportional-integral-derivative control logic, and specific display functions. The hydropneumatic tank must be rated for potable water at maximum 125 PSI operating pressure and pre-charged to 10 PSI below system operating pressure. Component materials include lead-free brass for relief valves, pressure gauges, and ball valves; stainless steel for transducers and check valves; and Type L copper tube for manifold piping. The specification includes additional components such as HOA switches, elapsed time meters, and pump cycle meters. Warranty coverage extends 36 months from shipment. Submittals must include shop drawings, electrical wiring diagrams, pump curves with operation point indicated, and cyber security-related documentation per Section 01 81 33. Installation must follow manufacturer's instructions, and closeout activities must comply with cyber security requirements.
