About this file

This combined synopsis and solicitation requests proposals for boiler and chiller chemical water treatment services at the National Centers for Animal Health in Ames, Iowa. The contract will have a one-year base period and four one-year options. Services include providing bulk chemicals and implementing a comprehensive water treatment program for chillers, cooling towers, steam boilers, and associated systems. The NAICS code is 325998 and it is set aside for small businesses with less than 500 employees. Proposals are due by December 8, 2022 and must include technical and price sections. Award will be made to the lowest priced technically acceptable offeror considering past performance. The contractor must have at least two years of water treatment and boiler/chiller program implementation experience, and one designated representative must be a chemical engineer.

Summary & Recommendations

ACTION ITEMS:

Install New Gateway Modems. They have been ordered.

Rush chemical 3DT230 shipment.

Clean and calibrate boiler TRASAR unit – Done.

Softeners:

Softeners tested soft

Feedwater:

The boiler feedwater tested zero hardness.

The boiler Trasar controller chemical feed flow cell was cleaned and calibrated. The cell fouling alarm should now subside. Trasar in the feedwater was in range at 9.30 ppm and the controller read 8.52 ppm.

The Trasar ORP probe is calibrated and working properly. ORP was -193 which is in range.

The Trasar pH was calibrated and working properly with feed water pH at 9.45 The boiler feedwater Trasar conductivity probe was pulled, and a 2-point calibration performed. This will bring the controller reading and actual sample result closer together. This probe is for monitoring purposes only but should be accurate.

Condensate

The condensate conductivity was 11.09 umhos which is great.

The condensate showed zero hardness The iron level was 0.17 ppm which is much better since DA was offline.

Condensate pH is low at 7.23. The amine concentration was low also at 3.95. Please monitor for trend and adjust accordingly.

Boilers: B2, and B3 were online at time of testing.

Boiler 2:

The boiler conductivity was at 4524 umhos. The blowdown probe was calibrated and working properly.

The boiler Trasar inhibitor dosage was at 248 ppm and correlated with boiler cycles.

The boiler sulfite concentration was low at 30 ppm All other boiler chemistry is as expected.

Boiler 3:

The boiler conductivity was low at 1938 umhos. The probe calibration was checked and working properly.

The boiler Trasar inhibitor dosage was at 91 ppm and correlated with boiler cycles.

The boiler sulfite concentration was 15 ppm but correlated with boiler cycels

Cooling Towers:

The TRASAR chemical reader is calibrated and working properly. The TRASAR dose is low but to be expected as inventory is low.

The TRASAR conductivity probe and pH probe are calibrated and working properly.

ST70 injector was plugged. Ben unplugged and cleaned the injector and it was working properly.

All other chemistry is as expected.

Chilled Loop:

The TRASAR level was in range at 2560ppm which is in range.

The iron level was high at 0.68 ppm compared which is much improved since adding the bleach last month.

All other chemistry is as expected.
