About this file
This document is a combined synopsis and solicitation for boiler and chiller water treatment services at the National Centers for Animal Health in Ames, Iowa. The solicitation seeks annual services for bulk chemical supply, water treatment, and related services on a firm-fixed price basis. The requirement includes treatment of chillers, cooling towers, steam boilers, and associated water systems. The acquisition will be a total small business set-aside for a one-year base period and four one-year options. Offerors must submit technical and price proposals by December 8, 2022. Award will be made to the lowest priced technically acceptable offeror considering technical experience, past performance, and price. The incumbent contractor provides these services.

Summary & Recommendations
ACTION ITEMS:
Troubleshoot why Boiler TRASAR unit is not reading or graphing Boiler feedwater conductivity correctly or displaying the correct Boiler 1 conductivity reading as well.
Softeners:
West Softener #2 was tested and showed zero hardness in the sample.
Feedwater:
The Boiler Feed Water conductivity is good and indicates about a 50% condensate return. The conductivity probe was calibrated but the TRASAR unit is not reading it correctly or graphing the conductivity data on the report. This is most likely due to a bad "board" or input. I will look at replacing this board.
The Trasar NexGen Chemical feed is calibrated and working properly. Feedwater Trasar dosage is right in range at 11.5 ppm.
The Trasar boiler feedwater pH probe was also calibrated and is working properly. Feedwater pH is in range at 9.5 The ORP probe is working properly. Sulfite in the boilers is as expected. Maintaining a sulfite residual in the boilers is an indication that we are protecting the DA tank and associated feedwater lines from oxygen pitting corrosion.
Condensate
The condensate showed zero hardness present today.
The conductivity tested at 52 micromhos.
Condensate pH was in range at 8.43. The iron in the combined condensate sample was acceptable but at the high end of the range.
The amine was in range at 11.85 ppm.
Boilers: B1, B2, B3 and B5 were online at time of testing.
Boiler 1:
The boiler conductivity is in range at 3729. However the TRASAR unit is not displaying the reading correctly due to a bad input. I am looking at replacing this input.
The boiler Trasar inhibitor dosage was at 163ppm and correlated with boiler cycles.
The boiler sulfite concentration was as expected at 25 ppm.
All other boiler chemistry is as expected.
Boiler 2:
The boiler conductivity is in range at 3949. A one point calibration on the probe was performed and working correctly.
The boiler Trasar inhibitor dosage was at 175ppm and correlated with boiler cycles.
The boiler sulfite concentration was as expected at 30 ppm.
All other boiler chemistry is as expected.
Boiler 3:
The boiler conductivity is in range at 3835. A one point calibration on the probe was performed and working properly.
The boiler Trasar inhibitor dosage was at 171ppm and correlated with boiler cycles.
The boiler sulfite concentration was as expected at 20 ppm.
All other boiler chemistry is as expected.
Personal Service Report National Animal Disease Center
Boiler 5:
The boiler conductivity is in range at 4047. A one point calibration on the probe was performed and working properly.
The boiler Trasar inhibitor dosage was at 175ppm and correlated with boiler cycles.
The boiler sulfite concentration was as expected at 30 ppm.
All other boiler chemistry is as expected.
Cooling Towers:
Off line for the season.
Chilled Loop:
Off line for the season.
Please don't hesitat to call with any questions.
Thank You.
