About this file

This document is a Requests for Information (RFI) for the Pajaro Flood Risk Management (FRM) - Reach 6 project, solicitation number W912P725BA012. The RFI contains 99 technical queries and corresponding responses addressing various construction details, including site demolition, concrete work, pile installation, and specific structural components. Key technical discussions include clarifications on:

Appurtenance removal at specific project stations, well abandonment, concrete joint sealing techniques, steel bell ring requirements for culverts, concrete slump ranges for wet hole conditions, and potential alternative installation methods for 24-inch Cast-in-Drilled-Hole (CIDH) piles. Most responses direct bidders to follow existing specifications, with some referencing Amendment 5 for updated details. The document also indicates that post-award Value Engineering Change Proposals (VECP) may be considered in accordance with federal acquisition regulation 52.248-3, suggesting flexibility for potential design modifications after contract award.

RFI Response

On plan sheet C-10, what appurtenances are expected to be left after demo of buildings by others is completed?

Some anticipated appurtenances expected to be left after demolition of buildings by others are specifically identified on C-10. In addition, Contractor is to follow the direction as indicated on

Notes 1, 2, and 3 of Sheet C-10.

On plan sheet C-07, plans do not callout removal of buildings, appurtenances, and asphalt between station RB0+00 to RB3+00. Confirm who is responsible for those removals.

The buildings, appurtenances, and asphalt seen between station RB0+00 to RB3+00 on the aerial imagery on C-07 have since been removed.

Is there information on the size and depths of the wells to be abandoned as noted on sheet C-13?

Size and depths of the wells are unknown. See updated notes on Sheet C-13 in Amendment 5.

Plan sheet 87 of 91, Monolith Joint Type B shows joint sealer at the wall expansion joint, please provide a detail in a profile view showing where the waterstop terminates to not conflict with the joint sealant.

Joint sealants should be installed according to ASTM C1193 and manufacturers written instructions. Sealant should be placed along the outside face of the joint. See specification 03

30 00.

Plan sheet 87 of 91, Monolith Joint Type C shows joint sealer at the construction joint, please provide a detail in a profile view showing where the waterstop terminates to not conflict with the joint sealant.

See Response for RFI 93.

Plan sheet 87 of 91, Monolith Joint Type C calls out waterstop and bond breaker not required if vertical r/f is continuous. The FW TYP. Section (sheet 86 of 91) shows continuous #4 and #6 rebar in the stem extending from the footing. Please confirm it is ok to eliminate waterstops and bond breakers as per the detail call out.

If there were a contraction joint crossing vertical steel then a waterstop and bondbreaker would not be required. Most, if not all joints crossing vertical steel would be a construction joint and would require a waterstop. See specification 03 30 00.

Detail 4 on Sheet S-02 Shows a Steel bell Ring. These are called for in Detail 2 on S-01 and on Detail 1 on S-02. A Steel Bell Ring is compatible with the Spigot Side of a segment of RCP, however these Steel Bell Rings are called out at both ends of the RCP Culverts. Can you please confirm if Steel Bell

Rings are Required at both ends of the RCP Culverts?

Steel Bell Rings are only required at the downstream discharge points. These would be required at the slide gate side for the gate well structure and also at the outfall structure with flap gate.

Propose to change Dowel hooks to HRC-555 Terminators in lieu of hooks. Is it acceptable? This is to prevent damage and ensure footing foundation’s rebar can maneuver easier around the piers’ vertical rebars

For bidding purposes, use the specifications. Post award VECP may be considered in accordance with 52.248-3

Requests for Information #3: W912P725BA012 - Pajaro FRM - Reach 6

The Proposed slump range noted in the spec section 31 63 29 2.3.3 Ready- Mix Concrete is not buildable to flow around the rebar of the cage when placed as wet hole tremie mix which we anticipate wet drilling conditions after reviewing the Geotech report. Slump range of 8”-10” inch is often used with spread test of 18” to 22” per ASTM C1611 for wet hole conditions.

Please confirm the slump range to be increased to 8-10 inches?

See Amendment 5 specification 31 63 29 para 2.3.3.

This question is regarding 24” CIDH Piles. Will Engineer on Records allow for an alternate installation method for 24” CIDH piles?

For bidding purposes, use the specifications. Post award VECP may be considered in accordance with 52.248-3
