KUWAITI STANDARDS

Requirements of the ministry of Electricity and Water (MEW) Established Design and Construction Criteria established by Kuwait.

OTHER STANDARDS

Standards other than those mentioned above may be accepted if the standards chosen are internationally recognized and meet the minimum requirements of the specified standards. The Contractor shall be prepared to submit proof of this if requested by the Contracting Officer.

2.7 Studies Supporting the Final Design

To accomplish the work contained in this contract, the Designer shall publish design studies to document the existing site conditions before proceeding with the design and construction of the site. This should include a topographic survey, a geophysical survey, a geotechnical survey and a hydrologic study.

2.7.1 Site Survey

The contract drawings include a concept site plan, typical sections, and standard details. The site plan provided in the contract also indicates approximate existing conditions and shall be verified by the Designer with a complete topographic survey of the site prior to starting design.

The Designer shall be responsible for furnishing an independent topographic survey of the project sites following the criteria in Appendix "A" of this section.

The survey shall provide all data needed to confirm or modify the design in the contract and construct the project. The survey shall include location and elevation of all relevant site features within the project limits. This includes the elevation and location of buildings (new and existing), roadways, pads, other structures, drainage systems, and utilities (subsurface and overhead) within 10 meters of the project sites.

Upon completion of the construction, the original survey shall be updated with an as-built survey of the site as constructed. The as-built survey shall be submitted to the COR for approval.

2.7.2 Geotechnical Survey Requirements

SECTION 01 80 00.12 10 Page 5

Survey all exploration and testing locations. Use the Kuwait System for horizontal and vertical control. If GPS is used, it must be calibrated at the start and finish of each day's work with a base station. Vertical and horizontal control shall be correct to the nearest centimeter.

2.7.2 Hydrologic Study

Investigate and assess the runoff from the drainage areas that surround the project sites based on 10, 50, 100 year storm event, using this information in the site drainage design to determine how it will affect site drainage.

2.7.3 Flood Risk Mitigation

Attached to this Specification is Appendix B, "100-Year Flood Assessment for Airfields located in Kuwait." Flows for a 100-year and 50-year return period or flood events were developed using a hydrologic model and satellite imagery to attempt to predict impacts of the event on the locations of Sites 6 and 7. The location of Site 6 is minimally impacted by the 100 and 50 year events. However, the location of Site 7 does appear that it will have considerable water ponding during the 50 and 100-year events.

The Contractor shall utilize the information contained in the report, combined with the Contractor's own topographic and site survey, when developing the grading and drainage design of the site to make sure that the finished floor elevations of the ECS, equipment pads affected by the ponding, Frequency Converter Buildings, and Storage Area/Sunshade are set higher than the anticipated ponding. The Contractor shall also consider the merits of the proposed perimeter berm outside of the fenceline to help divert the water around the site.
