About this file
This solicitation is for maintenance dredging of portions of the Newark Bay, New Jersey, Federal Navigation Project. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New York District, proposes to remove approximately 600,000 cubic yards of sediment from selected shoals in the Main and Port Newark Channels to depths of -40 feet and -50 feet Mean Lower Low Water plus 1 foot allowable overdepth. The dredged material, consisting primarily of silt and clay, would be processed and transported via barge to a contractor-furnished, state-permitted upland placement site for disposal. Due to restrictions in the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection Water Quality Certificate, work must be performed with a mechanical dredge using a closed clamshell environmental bucket. The contractor must commence work within five days of notice to proceed and maintain a production rate of at least 2,500 cubic yards per day to minimize channel closure time. Work is estimated to cost between $25-100 million and must be completed between August 2022 and March 2023. Bidders must provide permit evidence within 35 days of notification of being the apparent low bidder.
