About this file
This document provides details for a federal solicitation to perform maintenance dredging of portions of the Newark Bay, New Jersey, Federal Navigation Project. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New York District, proposes to remove approximately 600,000 cubic yards of sediment from the Main and Port Newark Channels to depths of -40 feet and -50 feet Mean Lower Low Water plus 1 foot allowable overdepth using a mechanical dredge with a closed clamshell environmental bucket. Multiple barges and tugboats will also be needed for dredging, dewatering, and unloading operations. The dredged material must meet all federal, state, and local criteria for placement at a contractor furnished, State permitted upland site. Bidders must provide copies of all required permits for transportation, processing, and final placement of dredged material within 35 days of notification as the apparent low bidder. Work must commence within 5 days of notice to proceed and maintain a production rate of at least 2,500 cubic yards per day, minimizing channel closure time. Work is anticipated from August 2022 to March 2023 and estimated to cost between $25-100 million.
