About this file
This document provides details on a federal solicitation for maintenance dredging of portions of the Newark Bay Federal Navigation Project in New Jersey. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New York District, is seeking a contractor to remove approximately 600,000 cubic yards of sediment from the Main and Port Newark Channels to depths of -40 and -50 feet MLLW plus one foot allowable overdepth using a mechanical dredge with a closed clamshell environmental bucket. Multiple barges and tugboats will also be needed for dredging, dewatering, and unloading operations. The contractor must furnish a State-permitted upland placement site and obtain all necessary permits for transportation, dewatering, processing and final placement of dredged material. Work is estimated to cost between $25-100 million and must commence within five days of notice to proceed at a rate of at least 2,500 cubic yards per day, in order to minimize impacts to ship traffic while dredging occurs between August 2022 and March 2023.
