About this file
This document is an "Approval in Principle" letter from the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) reviewing design drawings for a deck cargo barge. ABS has conducted an initial review of the drawings and found them to comply with the applicable ABS Rules for Building and Classing Steel Barges 2022, subject to future amendments upon submission of detailed drawings. The drawings reviewed include the outboard profile and general arrangement.
The related federal contract opportunity is a solicitation from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) for the procurement of three welded steel barges to support the civil works maintenance and repair mission of the Detroit District. The barges are required to have specific principal dimensions, including a length of 150 feet, beam of 38 feet, and depth of 10 feet 4 inches. The contractor will be responsible for fabricating and delivering the barges to the USACE facilities in Sault Sainte Marie, MI and Duluth, MN. Bid guarantee, payment, and performance bonds will be required, and there will be associated liquidated damages. Requests for Information (RFIs) should be submitted by June 21, 2024.
