About this file
This document contains a briefing on the Army National Guard's (ARNG) eXportable Combat Training Capability (XCTC) program.
The XCTC program provides brigade-level collective training for ARNG Brigade Combat Teams and Fires and Maneuver Brigades at the platoon level. It is designed to prepare units for Combat Training Center rotations by developing adaptive leaders and enabling platoons to achieve trained proficiency in core functions. The XCTC utilizes contractor support, instrumentation, observer/coach-trainers, and opposition forces to provide a realistic training environment across the full spectrum of conflict. Units participate in situational training exercises, live fire exercises, and a culminating battlefield exercise over 15-21 days.
The briefing outlines the XCTC's training model, capabilities, planning process, resource support including instrumentation and effects, and the exercise schedule for fiscal year 2016 rotations. It provides details on the observer/coach-trainer academy and after action review process. The document aims to inform unit leadership on the XCTC program in preparation for an upcoming rotation.

27-31 MAY 16 BWFX
Exercise Support - XCTC Exercise Support Cell (ESC) will assist the unit in coordinating and synchronizing training resources for the exercising unit to accomplish their training objectives. This includes:
Co-developing training scenarios with the BDE staff Synchronize resources and organize contractors Assist with establishing and publishing OC/T lane resource books Coordinate with State/Brigade for publishing OPORDs and FRAGOs The XCTC Package
Instrumentation Support - Enables Soldier and vehicle position tracking, weapons engagement events, data collection, and archiving for Instrumented after action reviews (IAAR) and unit take-home packages. Provides immediate training feedback in both 2D and 3D displays with synchronized tactical audio and video feeds. Enhances unit ability to conduct force-on-force and combined arms training by allowing the collection of engagement data through an interface with Army force-on-force instrumentation systems.
XCTC provides 5 areas of support during a rotation:
Battlefield Immersion Support - Designed to provide ARNG BCTs a realistic training environment. Battlefield Immersion Support will typically include some mix of the following: Role Players (to include interpreters), Civilians on the Battlefield, equipment, villages with set dressings, props, moulage, and wardrobe.
The XCTC Package Observer Coach / Trainer - OC/Ts are an asset from First Army or ARNG providing Commanders with an external evaluation source. OC/Ts work within the scope of the Commander’s training objectives and utilize the Instrumentation Package to provide units with highly detailed, tailorable Instrumented After Action Reviews (I-AARs).
Battlefield Effects Support - Enhances the realism of live training scenarios. Training effectiveness increases when the vulnerability, uncertainty, and confusion associated with potential threats in a Decisive Action Training Environment are replicated. Artillery, mortars, smoke, mines, Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and Vehicle-Borne IEDs (VBIEDs) are accurately and safely simulated.
