Subject: RESPONSES TO RFI #001

Project: AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE UNIT FACILITY

Job #: ANG# FAKZ169003 / SSL# 18153

From: David Donovan

1) Question: Can Sch 40 DWV PVC be used below the slab instead of hub and spigot cast iron as specified in 220000, 2.2?

Response: No.

2) Question: In specification 220000, 2.2, H, are standard Type 40 protection saddles allowed or are thermal hanger shields required? It is not clear which we are to use.

Response: Specifications indicate either are permissible. This is the Contractor’s option.

3) Question: What is the overall dimension of the chases behind the men’s and women’s water closets on sheet A6.1? These are to be wall-hung toilets and they require 15” minimum for a single fixture carrier.

Response: Chase dimension to be field verified and coordinated with water closet hangar to be provided. Maximum water closet chase depth to be 12” in rooms 113/114 . Various carriers are readily available requiring 12”, or less, clear chase dimension.

4) Question: There is no chase for the carrier serving the wall-hung toilets in the 2nd floor restrooms on sheet A6.1B Response: Chase has been added. Refer to Addendum No. 3. Chase dimension to be field verified and coordinated with water closet hangar to be provided.

Maximum water closet chase depth to be 15” in rooms 204/205 as noted in the addendum drawing.

5) Question: Can we get clarification on elevation 1F. It shows this being a Blast Curtainwall but has ¼” glass in the bottom and 1-5/16” glass in the top area. Is this supposed to be Blast CW? If so, it cannot have ¼” glass in the system.

Response: Refer to addendum No. 3. Glass tag/type has been changed.

Response: Design intent is that openings labeled aluminum curtain wall in the glazed opening schedule be provided as aluminum curtain wall. Where openings are labeled aluminum window systems, the Contractor shall have the option to provide blast resistant window systems as specified in specification section 08 5200 or aluminum curtain wall systems as specified in section 08 4413. All openings containing swinging entrances shall be aluminum curtain wall systems.

If aluminum windows are utilized, the window assemblies shall be blast resistant and fully comply with UFC 4-010-01. Aluminum windows will also be required to match curtain wall assembly exterior and interior finish. Custom colors for aluminum window assemblies, if required to provide match curtain wall assembly, shall be provided.
