About this file

This document is a Scope of Work (SOW) for upgrading Cath Lab #4 at the Minneapolis VA Health Care System. The project involves preparing the site for new X-ray equipment by removing existing equipment, demolishing the current infrastructure, and constructing a renovated space. Key project requirements include installing new medical gas systems, electrical and communication wiring, HVAC modifications, lead-lined walls, service booms, and a new structural support system for the X-ray equipment.

The project is estimated to cost between $1,000,000 and $2,000,000, with a proposed construction timeline of 240 days after contract award. The work will be phased to coordinate with Canon, the X-ray equipment vendor, who will remove the current equipment and install the new system. The contractor must attend weekly progress meetings, provide monthly debris removal reports, and adhere to VA safety standards and infection control requirements. The project emphasizes sensitive information handling and requires strict coordination with the Contracting Officer's Representative (COR).

2. The existing Cath Lab #4 space shall be prepared for the removal of the existing x-ray system and the installation of a new x-ray system. Specific tasks related to the removal of the existing x-ray system and installation of the new x-ray system will be performed by the x-ray system vendor. Therefore, close coordination of Contractors for the duration of this project is required.

3. The adjacent Cath Lab, Cath Lab #3, will remain operational during this project.

a. Shutdowns shall be coordinated with the Contractor’s Officer Representative (COR). All shutdown requests must be submitted to the COR, in writing, at least 25 calendar days prior to the desired date of the proposed shutdown. All shutdowns must be scheduled for after normal business hours or during weekend periods.

B. Base Bid: The contractor shall provide all labor, materials, and equipment necessary to accomplish the renovation of Cath. Lab 4 and site preparation for new x-ray equipment in Cath. Lab 4 per project construction drawings and specifications. This work includes, but is not limited to:

The conduits, gutters, raceways, and power that supported the existing x-ray equipment shall be removed as part of this project. Demolition of the existing structural strut system, walls (lead), finishes, casework, medical gases, plumbing, HVAC, and electrical systems shall be included in the demolition. See attached plans and specifications for the full extent of the demolition plan.

The VA will not retain any other equipment in addition to the X-Ray system and it shall not be “abandoned in place.”

3. New Construction: Will include the site preparation for the new installation of new x-ray equipment, new walls, corridor wall/floor finishes, and finishes for Cath Lab 4. See attached drawings and specifications for full scope of work.

a. The contractor should review the x-ray drawings and understand that they will be responsible for providing materials and labor for the installation of all items specified as contractor responsible unless stated otherwise. During the installation of the new x-ray equipment the contractor should allow time for support for the installation and terminations of final electrical conductors for the x-ray equipment.

b. New flooring, ceilings, finishes, casework, doors/windows, walls and other miscellaneous items will be included as part of the Upgrade Cath Lab 4 project. Contractor shall include all lead lined items shown on the drawings. Lead shielding will be required for walls, doors and windows.
