About this file
This is a Question and Answer (Q&A) Set #3 document from the Department of General Services Procurement regarding Printers and Multifunctional Devices, dated April 14, 2016, for Event ID #0000000258. The document addresses technical specifications for Group 4D equipment, specifically clarifying requirements for PDF scanning capabilities and device integration standards.
The Q&A addresses two key technical requirements: First, it confirms that MFP devices must maintain PDF scanning capability even if postscript is not required, with compliance to ISO 32000-1:2008 standards. Second, it specifies that for Group 4D, MFD units must be single stand-alone devices or equivalent, with integrated components powered by a single main power supply. The document explicitly rules out configurations where separate scanners are placed above standalone plotters unless they meet the integrated power supply requirement.

Department of General Services, Procurement Question and Answer (Q&A) Set #3 Printers, Multifunctional Devices Dated 4/14/16
Event ID #: 0000000258 Question and Answer (Q&A) Set #3
Item Bidder Questions State’s Response 3-1 Referencing Exhibit 11.22, Group 4D Specifications
Question 1) If post script is now not required, does that also mean that the MFP does not need to scan to PDF?
Answer: No – it still must scan to PDF. Requirement is to be Postscript or compatible (reference to ISO 32000-1:2008)
3-2 Referencing Exhibit 11.22, Group 4D Specifications
There are products that allow a separate scanner on a stand to basically fit above the stand alone plotter creating a ‘MFP’, In the last bid, DGS said that would only be acceptable if the units mated together and only had 1 power supply (1 power cord).
Question: Is this still the standard or can we take a scanner that scans to PDF and sit it above a non-post script plotter?
Decision: For 4D, MFD is one stand-alone device or equivalent;
meaning they are built in by design of the MFD, integrated and inter-membered to each other such that they are powered by a single main power supply on the MFD.
