Technical Document Distribution Statements
27 July 2017
DISTRIBUTION STATEMENT A. Approved for public release; distribution is unlimited.
TECHNICAL DOCUMENT DISTRIBUTION STATEMENTS
1. SCOPE
This attachment provides procedures for marking technical documents to denote the extent to which they are available for secondary distribution.
1.1 Purpose. Distribution statements are used to mark technical documents, including engineering, logistics, and production data. Distribution statement markings are distinct from and in addition to security classification markings.
1.2 Applicability. During eCASS production, manufacturing, integration, test and delivery, all production, engineering, logistics, and scientific and technical information, regardless of its medium, physical form, or characteristics, including preliminary and working drafts, shall be marked with a distribution statement. This includes technical reports, blueprints, drawings, technical orders, technical manuals, plans, instructions, computer software, viewgraphs, film, technical papers, photographs, etc.
2. APPLICABLE GOVERNMENT DOCUMENT
DoD Instruction 5230.24, “Distribution Statements on Technical Documents,” August 23, 2012, as amended
3. MARKING DATA
Distribution statements shall be shown on the title page and front cover. Portions or pages of a document or compilation may have different distribution statements that would govern their distribution if separated from the main document. The most restrictive distribution on its parts applies to the document as a whole. The distribution statement shall be displayed conspicuously on all technical documents regardless of media or format. For standard written or printed material, the distribution statement shall appear on the front cover and title page. If the technical information is not prepared in paper form but is prepared digitally or is in any medium that does not have a cover or title page, the applicable distribution statement shall be affixed to all physical and digital items by other means in a conspicuous position for ready recognition.
