About this file
This is a Task Group Instruction (TGI) document for ship maintenance work on the USS Higgins (DDG-76), prepared by the U.S. Navy. The instruction outlines inspection, repair, and preservation work on Ship Service Gas Turbine Generator (SSGTG) No. 3 dirty side intake system located in compartment 1-378-0-Q.
The work scope includes: visual inspection of current ship condition for corrosion, damage, and deterioration across decks, bulkheads, overhead surfaces, steel channels, stiffeners, penetrations, pipe hangers, and vibration damping; power tool cleaning to bare metal up to 300 square feet using SSPC-SP 11 surface preparation standards; ultrasonic thickness measurements at up to 50 locations with acceptance criteria per MIL-STD-2035; base metal buildup totaling 30 square inches (maximum 2-inch diameter per area, one-quarter inch thick); removal and installation of 10 square feet of deck, overhead, and bulkhead; removal and installation of 5 linear feet of stiffeners; vee out and welding of 2 linear feet of cracked or damaged welds; and coating application per SSPC Painting Manual Volume 2. Contractor work commences June 29, 2026, with completion by December 8, 2026. The instruction specifies that a non-flammable closure must be fabricated and staged per COMNAVDEASYSCOM requirements due to fire zone boundary work. Supporting reference materials include NSI and LI standard items, drawing packages, nondestructive testing procedures, and hull structure specifications. SRF-JRMC will provide ancillary services including crane operations, utilities, safety inspections, gas-free inspections, QA inspection, and on-site engineering support. The material list (Appendix M) is currently blank, with materials to be provided based on contractor condition reports.
