About this file
This is a Task Group Instruction (TGI) for maintenance and repair work on the USS Higgins (DDG-76), a Navy destroyer. The document provides detailed specifications for inspecting, repairing, and preserving the Engine Room No. One Gas Turbine Module (GTM) and Ship Service Gas Turbine Generator (SSGTG) No. One intake systems on the dirty side of the vessel.
The work scope includes visual inspection of intake components located across multiple ship compartments, power tool cleaning to bare metal of corroded and deteriorated areas covering up to 1,468 square feet, ultrasonic thickness measurements at up to 100 locations, and structural repairs including base metal buildup (50 square inches), replacement of deck and bulkhead sections (15 square feet), installation of new stiffeners (10 linear feet), and weld repairs (4 linear feet). All work must comply with surface preparation specification SSPC-SP 11 and welding requirements outlined in referenced standards. The contractor work period runs from June 29, 2026 through December 8, 2026. Key personnel include Planner M. Kanehira (Code 231A, 315-243-9883), Planner R. Nanba (315-243-6141), and Work Integration Manager T. Yaginuma. A critical special requirement mandates that a non-flammable closure be fabricated and staged near any access points through fire zone boundaries in accordance with COMNAVDEASYSCOM directives. Supporting services provided by SRF-JRMC include crane operations, utility services, safety and gas-free inspections, and quality assurance inspections for designated work elements.
