About this file
This document is a Task Group Instruction (TGI) for the USS BLUE RIDGE (LCC-19), specifically focused on cleaning, inspecting, repairing, and preserving the clean salt water ballast tank (9-52-1-W). The TGI details a comprehensive maintenance procedure involving multiple steps, including commercial blast cleaning, visual inspection, repairs to structural components, removal of unused brackets and stuffing tubes, and preservation of tank surfaces. The work is part of a larger ship repair and maintenance project scheduled from January 12, 2026, to May 15, 2027.
Key technical specifications include cleaning the salt water ballast tank with a surface preparation standard SSPC-SP6, repairing up to 60 square inches of plate defects, removing and replacing 10 square feet of deteriorated plate, and installing new manhole cover plates. The document also specifies special requirements such as fabricating a non-flammable closure for a fire zone boundary and maintaining a cleanliness level III for piping systems and equipment. The work will be conducted under the supervision of SRF-JRMC (Ship Repair Facility and Japan Regional Maintenance Center) with various quality assurance and technical support services provided.
