roll l e n g t h and corresponding 30-foot sample shall have the same number and shal l be numbered consecutively. Three ten-foot specimens sha l l be cut from each 30-foot sample.

4.6.2.2 Apparatus. The test grips for h o l d i n g the specimen shall be so designed tha t webbing f a i l u r e will not occur w i t h i n the g r i p .

The no-load r a t e of Jaw separation shall be 4 t o 8 inches per minute.

4.6.2.3 Sewed loops - type I I and I I I . Five specimens of type I I or I I I webbing shall be taken from the f irst production roll and loops formed i n accordance w i t h the sewing pattern of E.W. Bliss Company Drawing 52-D-844. The sewed loops shall be tested on a suf f ic ien t h i g h enough load capaclty machine so that the webbing rated breaking strength is not a t the extreme machine limits.

4.6.3 Extractable matter. The extractable matter, inclusive of the resin deposit , shall be determined on one (1) specimen of approximately 10 grams of the webbing. The sample, a f t e r separation of the warp and f i l l i n g yarns, shall beodrieg t o co[jstant geight i n a weighing bot t le a t a temperature of 220 5 8 F (104 4 . 5 C ) . The specimen shall then be placed i n a Soxhlet apparatus and a f t e r a 6-hour extraction w i t h methyl-ethyl-ketone, the f i n a l weight of the extracted sample shall be obtained by repeating the constant weight drying conditions as specified above. The percent of extractable matter shall be calculated as follows:

Continuous roll Each

Loss i n Wei h t on extraction Percent extractable matter = Original dr$ weight on sample

4.6.4 S t i f fness t e s t . A 36 inch length of webbing shall be precondi-tioned by placing the webbing on a horizontal surface and placing su f f i c i ee t weight on the webbing t o remove any long i tud ina l curvature a t 70-75 F and 65-70 percent RH, Immediately after the preconditioning period under the same atmospheric conditions the sample shall be extended 16 inches beyond the edge of the horizontal surface. The webbing sha l l be suf f ic ien t ly weighted t o keep i t f l a t on the horizontal surface. A t the end of a 4-hour period measurements shall be made t o determine the d rop angle.
