About this file
This document is a Preventive Maintenance (PM) Instruction Manual for a Linen Conveyor System. It provides detailed guidance on the daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance tasks required to ensure safe and reliable operation of the system. Key details include:
The conveyor system has a simple sequence of operation - it slows down when an item passes the middle photosensor, and stops when an item passes the end photosensor. Operators are responsible for daily visual inspections and notifying maintenance personnel of any issues. Maintenance tasks include cleaning the inverter weekly, checking set screws monthly, and inspecting the conveyor belt. Lockout/tagout procedures must be followed, and power must be disconnected before performing any maintenance.
The related federal contract opportunity is for Laundry Equipment Preventive Maintenance and Repair Services at the Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System in Biloxi, MS. This is a 100% Small Business set-aside solicitation, with no special socioeconomic categories specified. 3.0 Preventive Maintenance
Various components of the conveyor require scheduled maintenance to ensure long life and trouble-free operation. Unless otherwise indicated, preventive maintenance (PM) should only be done when the unit is completely cool and the main disconnect switch is turned to OFF.
Specific preventive maintenance that requires the unit to run should be done with extreme caution, with attention to detail, and using the “buddy” system. For more information on safety within this bulletin, refer to the INTRODUCTION and OPERATING GUIDELINES sections.
Since operators run the conveyor, they should be trained on site to visually inspect common areas daily and notify maintenance personnel when problems are found (i.e. worn conveyor belt).
The Preventive Maintenance Schedule below outlines all of the PM tasks required at regular intervals. All tasks are the responsibility of maintenance personnel. However, certain indicated tasks may be done by trained operators.
FREQUENCY OF TASKS BASED ON 40 HOURS PER WEEK OPERATION
Preventive Maintenance Tasks Operator Maintenance Stacker Condition
DAILY
GENERAL CLEANLINESS X OFF/DISCONNECT POWER
WEEKLY
CHECK AND CLEAN INVERTER X X OFF/DISCONNECT POWER
MONTHLY
CHECK SETSCREWS X OFF/DISCONNECT POWER
INSPECT CONVEYOR BELT X OFF/DISCONNECT POWER
Use this guide as a quick reference to determine the PM work schedule. All PM intervals are based on 8-hour/day operation. Increase the frequency for two or three shift operations.
WARNING
Follow lockout/ tagout procedures approved for your site. Follow local regulations. Failure to do so could result in serious injury.
Make sure the power is

Daily PM
General Cleanliness
Required Tools vacuum cleaner or compressed air, clean cloth
Perform only when the unit is OFF with power disconnected and COOL.
CAUTION
Do not use compressed air on or around electronic components, doing so may damage them.
Prevent lint, dirt, dust, and foreign material from collecting on the unit during operation.
General cleanliness keeps items clean, prevents sensor errors, and damage to electrical components (Figure L-6).
Weekly PM
Check and Clean Inverter
Required Tools vacuum cleaner
Perform only when the unit is OFF with power disconnected and COOL.
CAUTION
Failure to check and clean the inverter may void the warranty.
Check and clean the inverter (Figure L-7) cooling fins and motor weekly. Failure to do so may void the warranty.
Figure L-6: Sensors (top) and reflectors (bottom) must be free of lint to operate correctly.
Figure L-7: Clean the inverter located in the main electrical box.

Monthly PM
Check Setscrews
Required Tools Allen wrench
Perform only when the unit is OFF with power disconnected and COOL.
Setscrews are used to secure the motorized drive roll (Figure L-8). Check all setscrews are correctly tightened.
Inspect Conveyor Belt
Perform only when the unit is OFF with power disconnected and COOL.
Inspect the conveyor belt (Figure L-9).
Whenever the belt is still in good shape overall, but has stretched, adjust tension. Replace the belt when it shows signs of excessive wear.
Figure L-9: Check conveyor belt for damage or excessive wear.
Figure L-8: Check that the set screws which help secure both sides of the motorized drive roll are secure.
