About this file
This document provides common output level standards for bird and animal aircraft strike hazard mitigation at military installations. It outlines four levels of requirements and mitigation projects in increasing priority zones surrounding airfields, with COL1 being the most stringent and COL4 the least. COL1 requires fulfilling all specifications in the installation's wildlife hazard mitigation plan for zones 1 through 4. COL2 requires most projects in zones 1 through 4 as specified. COL3 mandates all requirements in zones 1 and 2 along with prioritizing other projects according to hazard severity. Vegetation maintenance is also prioritized. COL4 only necessitates all zone 1 mitigation as specified.

COMMON OUTPUT LEVEL STANDARDS FOR
BIRD/ANIMAL AIRCRAFT STRIKE HAZARD (BASH)
Installation-specific BASH requirements can be found in the Installation Wildlife Hazard Mitigation Plan
(WHMP). In the absence of a formal WHMP, a requirements document will be prepared by the Installation BASH working group (BWG) that outlines requirements in BASH mitigation zones (BMZ) 1 through 4 at each COL.
COL 1:
All requirements/projects in BMZ 1 through 4 as specified in the installation WHMP.
COL 2:
Most requirements/projects in BMZ 1 through 4 as specified in the installation WHMP. Installation BWG to prioritize vegetation clearance requirements for execution within available funding and accept limited risk.
COL 3:
All requirements /projects in BMZ 1 and all mowing, pesticide, and herbicide requirements in BMZ 2 as specified in the installation WHMP. Installation BWG to prioritize other vegetation clearance requirements/projects according to the most severe hazards to the airfield, and provide a five-year plan for project funding requirements in BMZ 2 and
3. Ditch and fence line clearance projects may be prioritized for initial cleaning; however, once complete they should be added to the annual vegetation maintenance requirements to reduce the potential for higher priced, non-routine mitigation actions. Installation and airfield fence line repair/maintenance is an ST responsibility.
COL 4:
All requirements/projects in BMZ 1 as specified in the installation WHMP. Installation BWG to prioritize vegetation clearance requirements in BMZ 2 for execution within available funding.
