About this file
This is a Limited Asbestos Survey Report prepared by Emerald, Inc. for the 20th Civil Engineering Squadron at Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina. The survey was conducted on March 11, 2025, to identify the presence of asbestos-containing materials (ACM) in HVAC equipment and acoustic ceiling tiles of Building 611 prior to HVAC renovation activities. The inspection was authorized by Mr. Matt Wenger, P.E., and conducted by J. Dalton Reames, Jr., a South Carolina Licensed Building Inspector. Twelve bulk samples were collected and analyzed by EMSL Analytical, Inc. using Polarized Light Microscopy (PLM) per EPA Bulk Analysis Method 600/R-93/116, with three samples receiving additional confirmation testing via Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) per South Carolina Asbestos Regulations 61-86.1.
The survey results indicate that no friable or non-friable asbestos-containing materials were detected in any of the tested samples as of March 11, 2025. Samples analyzed included gray-colored duct mastic, light tan-colored pipe wrap mastic, light tan-colored HVAC duct wrap mastic, and 2'x2' acoustic ceiling tiles from various locations throughout Building 611, all of which tested negative for asbestos. The report includes laboratory analytical results, chain of custody documentation, site plans identifying sample locations, building inspector licenses for the qualified personnel, and site photographs documenting the HVAC materials and ceiling tile systems inspected. The survey permits the 20th Civil Engineering Squadron to proceed with HVAC renovation activities with the assurance that no asbestos abatement is required for the tested materials.
