PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1 MATERIALS

A. General: Except as otherwise indicated, or as directed by the Contracting Officer Representative use materials for cutting and patching that are identical to existing materials. If identical materials are not available, or cannot be used, use materials that match existing adjacent surfaces to the fullest extent possible with regard to visual effect. Use materials for cutting and patching that will result in equal-or-better performance characteristics.

1. The use of a trade name and suppliers name and address is to indicate a possible source of the product. Products of the same type from other sources shall not be excluded provided they possess like physical and functional characteristics.

2. Patch with similar or comparable systems and with approval fron the warranty holders so that existing warranties are not voided.

3. Patch existing roof system with like or similar system and with the approval of the original manufacturer so that the existing roof system warranty is maintained.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 INSPECTION

A. Before cutting, examine the surfaces to be cut and patched and the conditions under which the work is to be performed. If unsafe or otherwise unsatisfactory conditions are encountered, take corrective action before proceeding with the work.

1. Before the start of cutting work, meet at the work site with all parties involved in cutting and patching, including mechanical and electrical trades. Review areas of potential interference and conflict between the various trades. Coordinate layout of the work and resolve potential conflicts before proceeding with the work.

3.2 PREPARATION

A. Temporary Support: To prevent failure provide temporary support of work to be cut.

D. When machinery can damage municipal roads or parking lots to access the work site, protect the roads and lots.

ARB Bldg. 22 - Restroom Renovations & Upgrades 010450 - 4

3.3 PERFORMANCE

A. General: Employ skilled workmen to perform cutting and patching work. Except as otherwise indicated or as approved by the Contracting Officer Representative, proceed with cutting and patching at the earliest feasible time and complete work without delay.

B. Cutting: Cut the work using methods that are least likely to damage work to be retained or adjoining work. Where possible review proposed procedures with the original installer; comply with original installers recommendations.

1. In general, where cutting is required use hand or small power tools designed for sawing or grinding, not hammering and chopping. Cut through concrete and masonry using a cutting machine such as a carborundum saw or core drill to insure a neat hole.

2. Cut holes and slots neatly to size required with minimum disturbance of adjacent work. To avoid marring existing finished surfaces, cut or drill from the exposed or finished side into concealed surfaces. Temporarily cover openings when not in use.

3. Comply with requirements of other applicable sections where cutting and patching requires excavating and backfilling.

4. By-pass utility services such as pipe and conduit, before cutting, where such utility services are shown or required to be removed, relocated or abandoned. Cut-off conduit and pipe in walls or partitions to be removed. After by-pass and cutting, cap, valve or plug and seal tight remaining portion of pipe and conduit to prevent entrance of moisture or other foreign matter.

C. Patching: Patch with seams which are durable and as invisible as possible. Comply with specified tolerances for the work.

1. Where feasible, inspect and test patched areas to demonstrate integrity of work.

2. Restore exposed finishes of patched areas and where necessary extend finish restoration into retained adjoining work in a manner which will eliminate evidence of patching and refinishing

3. Where removal of walls or partitions extends one finished area into another finished area, patch and repair floor and wall surfaces in the new space to provide asn even surface of uniform color and appearance. If necessary to achieve uniform color and appearance, remove existing floor and wall coverings and replace with new materials.

a. Where patch occurs in a smooth painted surface, extend final paint coat over entire unbroken surface containing patch, after patched area has received prime and base coat.

4. Patch, repair or rehang existing ceiling as necessary to provide an even plane surface of uniform appearance.

5. Patch existing roof system with like or similar system to maintain positive drainage to roof drains and watertight roof membrane.
